Plain text of Book 7
7.1 Flow, O Soma, for the Lord of speech, cleansed by hands from the two offshoots of the mighty plant.
Flow pure, for the sake of the Lord of whom thou art the provision.
7.2 Sweeten the freshening draughts we drink.
O Soma, whatever name thou hast, unconquerable, giving life: hail to that thy Soma!
7.3 Gathered art thou from all the powers that are in heaven and on the earth.
May the mind win thee. All-hail! for the sake of God the Light-giver, O thou nobly born.
Thee for the angels who guard the motes of light.
Truly fulfilled, O blessed plant, be that for which I pray to thee.
Thee for out-breathing, thee for breath diffused!
7.4 Taken upon a base art thou. Hold in, O Lord of riches! be the guard of the Soma.
Be thou protector of our wealth: win strengthening food by sacrifice.
7.5 The heaven and spacious earth I lay within thee, I lay within thee the middle air's wide region.
Accordant with the angels, lower and higher, O Lord of riches, rejoice in the Antaryama.
7.6 Gathered art thou from all the powers that are in heaven and on the earth.
May the mind win thee. All-hail! for the sake of God the Light-giver.
Thee for the angels who guard the motes of light.
Truly fulfilled, O blessed plant, be that for which I pray to thee.
Thee for the upward breath.
7.7 O Lord of the wind, be near us: a thousand are Thy gifts, All-bounteous Giver.
To Thee, as Thy provision, the strengthening juice is presented, the first portion of it set apart for Thy sake.
7.8 These have been shed in Thy name, O Mighty One, Lord of the wind; accept our offered dainties.
The drops are yearning for Thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Lord of the wind, the Mighty, thee. This is thy home.
7.9 This Soma hath been shed for Thee, O Strengthener of Law, Friend and All-Seeing!
Here listen to this my call.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Friend thee, for the All-Seeing thee.
7.10 May we, possessing much, delight in riches, as the devout in their offering, and the kine in pasture;
and that milch-cow who shrinks not from the milking, O Mighty and All-Seeing, give to us daily.
This is thy home.
7.11 Distilling honey is the morning breeze, full of pleasantness: sprinkle therewith the sacrifice.
Taken upon a base art thou. This is thy home.
7.13 Well stored with heroes and begetting heroes, with growth of wealth surround the Sacrificer.
The bright, conjoined with heaven and with earth, with the brightly-shining one.
Thou art the dwelling of the Bright.
7.14 May we, O radiant Soma, be the keepers of thine uninjured strength and growth of riches.
This is the first all-bounteous consecration: He the first, the All-Seeing, the Friend, the Radiant.
7.15 He is the first Lord of prayer, the Prudent. Offer ye juice with Hail! for the sake of that Mighty God.
Content be the priestly offices, those with good sacrifice of the sweet draught, those that are pleased when they have gained fair offerings with the solemn Hail!
The Kindler of the Fire hath sacrificed.
7.16 See, the loving sun, born in light, hath driven hither on the chariot of the air the calves of the speckled cloud.
Singers with hymns caress him as an infant there where the waters and the sunlight mingle.
Taken upon a base art thou.
7.17 To his offering, swift as thought, ye hurried and welcomed eagerly the prayers he offered.
With arrows in his hand the Very Mighty forced from him all obedience of a servant.
This is thy dwelling-place. Protect the people.
7.18 Well stored with people and begetting people, with growth of wealth surround the Sacrificer.
The Manthin joined with heaven and earth and with the Manthin-shining one.
Thou art the dwelling of the Manthin.
7.19 O ye eleven angels whose home is heaven, O ye eleven who make earth your dwelling,
ye who with might, eleven, live in the waters, bear witness to this sacrifice, ye angels, with pleasure.
7.20 Taken upon a base art thou. Thou art Agrayana, the good first libation.
Be thou the guard of the sacrifice: protect the lord of the sacrifice.
May God with might protect thee. Guard thou the offering.
Guard on all sides the Soma sacrifices.
7.21 Soma flows pure, Soma flows pure for this priesthood, for the nobility, pure for the worshipper who presses out the juice, flows pure for food and energy, for waters and for plants; flows pure for general prosperity.
Thee for the Lord of all. This is thy home. Thee for the Lord of all.
7.22 Taken upon a base art thou. For God the Mighty, Lord of the Brihat psalm, strong with vital vigour, I take thee, lover of invocation.
O Mighty God, what mighty vigour Thou possessest, for that do I take thee, take thee for the All-Pervading.
This is thy home. Thee for the recitations.
For God I take thee, the Protector of the faithful; yea, for the sacrifice's life I take thee.
7.23 For the Friend and the All-Seeing thee, the Protector of the faithful; yea, for the sacrifice's life I take thee.
For the Mighty, thee, as before. For the Mighty and Radiant, thee, as before. For the Mighty and All-Seeing, thee, as before. For the Mighty, Lord of prayer, thee, as before. For the Mighty and All-Pervading, thee, as before.
7.24 Him, messenger of earth and head of heaven, the fire that serves all men, born in holy Order,
the Sage, the King, the guest of men, a vessel fit for their mouths, have the angels kindled.
7.25 Taken upon a base art thou. Firm, firmly resting, the firmest of the firm, the most securely grounded of those who never have been shaken.
This is thy home. Thee for the Lord of all mankind.
I pour forth with firm mind, with voice, firm Soma. So now may God the Mighty verily make our people all of one heart and mind and free from foemen.
7.26 Whatever drop of thine leaps forth, whatever stalk from the bowls' lap, shaken by the press-stone,
from the Adhvaryu's hand or from the filter, that, consecrated in my mind with Vashat, I offer unto Thee with cry of Hail!
Thou art the way by which the righteous ascended.
7.27 Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my outward breath.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my spreading breath.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my upward breath.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my power of speech.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my sense and will.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my hearing power.
Givers of splendour, grow ye pure for splendour for my orbs of sight.
7.28 Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my living self.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my energy.
Giver of splendour, grow thou pure for splendour for my vital power.
Givers of splendour, grow ye pure for splendour for all sprung from me.
7.29 Who art thou? Which of all art thou? Whose art thou? Who art thou by name?
Even thou on whose name we have meditated, thou whom we have filled with our Soma.
7.30 Taken upon a base art thou. For Madhu thee. Taken upon a base art thou. For Madhava thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For Sukra thee. Taken upon a base art thou. For Suchi thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For Nabhas thee. Taken upon a base art thou. For Nabhasya thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For Food thee. Taken upon a base art thou. For Energy thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For Sahas thee. Taken upon a base art thou. For Sahasya thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For Tapas thee. Taken upon a base art thou. For Tapasya thee.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the thirteenth month thee.
7.31 Moved by our hymns, O Mighty and Radiant One, come to the juice, the precious dew.
Accept it, impelled by song.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Mighty and Radiant thee. This is thy dwelling. Thee for the Mighty and Radiant.
7.32 Hitherward! they who light the flame and straightway strew the sacred grass,
whose Friend is God the Mighty, ever young.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Mighty and Radiant thee. This is thy dwelling.
7.33 O Lord of all, who protectest, rewardest, and cherishest men, accept Thy worshipper's offering.
Taken upon a base art thou. Thee for the Lord of all. This is thy home. Thee for the Lord of all.
7.34 Hear this my invocation, O Lord of all.
Taken upon a base art thou. Thee for the Lord of all. This is thy home. Thee for the Lord of all.
7.35 Here accept this offering, O Mighty God, whom the Maruts serve, as Thou didst accept the offering at the sacrifice of Saryata.
Under Thy guidance, in Thy keeping, O Hero, the singers serve, skilled in fair sacrifices.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Mighty, whom the Maruts serve, thee. This is thy home.
7.36 The Mighty One whose strength hath waxed, whom the Maruts follow, free-giving, the Celestial Ruler,
mighty, all-conquering, the victory-giver, Him we invoke to give us new protection.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Mighty, whom the Maruts serve, thee. This is thy home.
Taken upon a base art thou. Thee for the might of the Maruts.
7.37 O Mighty God, accordant with the banded Maruts, accept the Soma, O Hero, as wise overcomer of the Obstructor.
Overcome our foemen, drive away assailants, and make us safe on every side from danger.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Mighty, whom the Maruts serve, thee. This is thy home.
7.38 Accept, O Mighty One, the Soma, for joy, even as Thou pleasest.
Thou art the King of juices shed fortnightly.
Taken upon a base art thou. For the Mighty, whom the Maruts serve, thee. This is thy home.
7.39 Great, heroic, controlling men is God the Mighty, unwasting in His powers, doubled in vastness.
He, turned to us, is a hero in vigour: broad, wide, He is adorned by the praises of those who serve Him.
Taken upon a base art thou. Thee for the Most Mighty. This is thy dwelling-place. Thee for the Most Mighty.
7.40 God the Mighty, great in His power and might, and like the rain-cloud rich in rain, is magnified by the praises of Vatsa.
Taken upon a base art thou. Thee for the Most Mighty.
7.41 His bright rays bear the sun aloft, the sign of the God who knoweth all that lives, that all may look on it. All-hail!
7.42 The brilliant sign of the Lord hath risen: the sun, a witness by God's leave.
It sustains all that moves and all that moves not; the sun hath filled the air and earth and heaven with light.
7.43 By goodly paths lead us to riches, O God who knowest every sacred duty.
Remove the sin that makes us stray and wander: most ample adoration will we bring Thee.
7.44 Wide room and comfort may the Radiant One give us, and go before us, cleaving down our foemen.
May He grant us victory in the fight for spoil; may He quell our foes in the triumphant onset.
7.45 I through your beauty have attained to beauty. May the All-Knowing allot you!
Go forth, bright-gifted! on the path of Order. Look thou upon the heaven and air's mid-region. Unite thee with the priests who keep the Sadas.
7.46 This day may it be mine to find a righteous and learned scholar, worthy of praise, himself a seer, the fit recipient of the priestly gift.
Go to God, bestowed by me, and return in blessing to him who gives.
7.47 To me let God give thee. May I gain a long and blessed life.
Be thou strong vital power to him who gives thee, and comfort unto me, the gift's receiver.
To me let God give thee. May I gain a long and blessed life.
Be thou the breath of life to him who gives thee, and vigour unto me, the gift's receiver.
To me let God give thee. May I gain a long and blessed life.
Be thou a covering skin to him who gives thee, and comfort unto me, the gift's receiver.
To me let God give thee. May I gain a long and blessed life.
Be thou a steed to him who gives the guerdon, and vital power to me, the gift's receiver.
7.48 Who hath bestowed it? Upon whom bestowed it?
The wish for good bestowed it; for good he gave it. The wish for good is giver and the wish for good receiver. This gift, O Lord, to Thee is dedicated.
