What is the meaning of life?

Accepted Answer

Almost everyone asks it, usually late at night. The Quran answers in two short sentences: we were created to worship GOD alone, and this life is a test of who will do better. "I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone" (51:56) "The One who created death and life for the purpose of distinguishing those among you who would do better. He is the Almighty, the Forgiving." (67:2)

Does GOD exist, and how could I know?

Accepted Answer

For the person with no scripture, the Quran does not begin with a book. It begins with questions anyone can answer: were we created from nothing, did we create ourselves, or were we made? "Were they created from nothing? Are they the creators? Did they create the heavens and the earth? Indeed, they have no certainty." (52:35-36) "Say, "To whom belongs the earth and everyone on it, if you know?" They will say, "To GOD." Say, "Why then do you not take heed?"" (23:84-85)

Is there proof the Quran is from GOD?

Accepted Answer

A book that claims to supersede every other book must carry its own proof. The Quran says it does: a structure built on the number 19, beginning with its first verse of 19 Arabic letters. "Over it is nineteen." (74:30) "We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell, and we assigned their number (19) (1) to disturb the disbelievers, (2) to convince the Christians and Jews (that this is a divine scripture), (3) to strengthen the faith of the faithful, (4) to remove all traces of doubt from the hearts of Christians, Jews, as well as the believers, and (5) to expose those who harbor doubt in their hearts, and the disbelievers; they will say, "What did GOD mean by this allegory?" GOD thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is a reminder for the people." (74:31)

Did every religion receive the same message?

Accepted Answer

The Quran says GOD sent a messenger to every community, with one message: worship GOD alone. The Vedas, the Torah, the Gospel and the Guru Granth still carry that message in their oldest words. "We have sent a messenger to every community, saying, "You shall worship GOD, and avoid idolatry."" (16:36) "He decreed for you the same religion decreed for Noah, and what we inspired to you, and what we decreed for Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: "You shall uphold this one religion, and do not divide it."" (42:13)

What happens to my soul after death?

The Rigveda's funeral hymn, the Gospel, the Hebrew prophets and the Quran describe one road: one death, a resurrection, and a judgement in which no one carries another's load. "No soul bears the sins of another soul." (53:38) "The One who created death and life for the purpose of distinguishing those among you who would do better. He is the Almighty, the Forgiving." (67:2)

Why is life so hard, and is GOD still with me?

Accepted Answer

Hardship is a test, not a sign of abandonment. GOD answers that exact feeling in His own words. "When My servants ask you about Me, I am always near. I answer their prayers when they pray to Me. The people shall respond to Me and believe in Me, in order to be guided." (2:186) "GOD never burdens a soul beyond its means" (2:286)
