Our worship, O God, the Giver of Light, speed onward: speed to its fulfilment the worship of the one who offers. May the heavenly angel, cleanser of thought and will, make clean our thoughts and wishes. May the Lord of Speech sweeten the words we utter!

May we attain that excellent glory of God the Giver of Light: so may He stimulate our prayers.

O God, send far away all troubles and calamities, and send us only what is good.

We call on Him, distributer of wondrous bounty and of wealth, on God who looks on men.

Every calling has its place in the service of God's creation. For learning, a scholar; for rulership, a leader; for the helpers of the people, a tradesman; for penance, a labourer; for the guarding of the home, a watchman; for dexterity, a car-builder; for firmness, a carpenter;

for skill, an artificer; for beauty, a jeweller; for welfare, a sower; for the making of arrows, a maker of shafts; for the bow, a bowyer; for action, a bowstring-maker; for rope, a rope-maker; for hunting, a hunter; for guarding, a dog-leader;

for the rivers, a fisherman; for the care of animals, a herdsman; for the knowledge of motives, a wise judge; for insight, an astrologer; for the craving for knowledge, an inquisitive man; for moral law, a question-solver;

for the care of the elephants, an elephant-keeper; for speed, a horse-keeper; for nourishment, a cowherd; for manliness, a shepherd; for keenness, a goatherd; for refreshment, a ploughman; for welfare, a house-guard; for well-being, a possessor of wealth; for supervision, a doorkeeper's attendant;

for light, a wood-bringer; for brightness, a fire-kindler; for the Sun's station, a besprinkler; for the household, a high steward; for the world of men, a distributer; for all the worlds, a pourer-out; for cleanliness, a washerwoman; for colour, a dyer;

for discrimination, a door-keeper; for inspection, a door-keeper's attendant; for strength, a servant; for plenty, a running footman; for the beloved, a sweet speaker; for safety, the rider of a horse; for the distribution of portions, a dealer-out of portions;

for the work of iron, an iron-smelter; for yoking, a yoker; for quiet, an unyoker; for virtue, an ointment-maker; for the sword, a scabbard-maker;

for the seasons and the years, those who keep the count of the days; for the hides, a hide-dresser; for leather, a currier;

for the lakes, a fisherman; for the standing waters, a fisher; for the tank-waters, a fisher-folk man; for the reed-beds, a fish-vender; for the opposite bank, one who gropes for fish; for this bank, a fish-catcher; for the fords, one who dams the water; for the shallows, a netter of fish; for the mountain-heights and caverns, a hunter of the hills;

for colour, a goldsmith; for balance, a merchant; for prosperity, a watchful man; for the use of the sound of instruments, a drummer, a lute-player, a flute-blower, a conch-blower; for the wood, a wood-ranger; for the partly-wooded land, a forest fire guard; for song and pleasure, a musician; for the keeping of watch, a village head-man and a watchman;

for laughter, a jester; for the feast, a hand-clapper and a flutist for the dance.

Differences of stature and complexion are no cause of rank among people: the tall and the short, the stout and the thin, the fair and the dark, the bald and the hairy are all servants of God, the Creator, and the noblest of them before Him is the most righteous.
