Plain text of Book 10

19 Forth from the summit of the bull, the mountain, pouring spontaneously, the ships keep moving.

They, lifted up, have turned them back and downward, still flowing onward, after the depths of the firmament.

Thou art a stepping-forth in the pathway of God the All-Pervading; thou art an outstep in His pathway.

20 O God the Creator, Thou alone comprehendest all these created forms, and none beside Thee.

Give us our heart's desire when we call upon Thee. So-and-So's father is this man. Sire of this man is So-and-So.

May we, blessed be it, be lords of rich possessions.

What active highest name Thou hast, O Healer, therein let this be an offering for Thy sake, an offering at home. Blessed be it!

21 Thou art the thunderbolt of the Mighty. I, by the direction of God the Friend and the All-Seeing, the Directors, yoke thee.

I, the uninjured Arjuna, mount thee for firmness, thee for food.

By the quickening of the angels be thou victor. May we obtain by mind, with power united.

22 Let us not, O Mighty One, conqueror of the mighty, unfit through lack of prayer fail to obtain Thee.

Ascend the car which Thou, whose hand bears thunder, controllest, and the reins with noble horses.

23 Blessed be the Radiant One, Master of the Household! Blessed be the provision of God, Sovereign of the Forest!

Blessed be the great vigour of the angels! Blessed be the effectual might of the Mighty!

Injure me not, O Mother Earth, and may I never injure thee.

24 The sun, a sign of God, throned in light, dwelling in mid-air, the priest beside the altar, the guest within the house,

Dwelling in noblest place, among men, in truth, in sky, risen from the flood, the rays, the truth, the mountain, is a sign of mighty Law.

25 So great art Thou, O God; Thou art life; give me life.

Thou art splendour; give me splendour.

Thou art strength; give me strength. I draw down my arms in submission to the Mighty, mighty in achievement.

26 Fair art thou, good to sit on, the seat of kingship.

Sit on the fair one, sit on that which offers a pleasant seat: sit in the seat of kingship.

27 The king, upholder of law under God the All-Seeing, hath sat down among his people, he most wise, for universal sway.

28 Supreme ruler art thou. May these five regions of thine be prosperous. O scholar! Thou art a scholar; thou art a giver of light, faithful in impulsion.

Thou art an upholder of law, whose power is real. Thou art mighty, whose strength is of the people. Thou art kind and gracious as a healer.

Doer of much, improver, increaser of wealth! Be strong as the thunderbolt of the Mighty. Be therewith my helper.

29 May God the Radiant, spacious and vast, Lord of Duty, gladly accept the offering of butter, made for His sake. Blessed be it!

Hallowed with the beams of the sun, His sign, strive for the central place among the kinsmen.

30 I set forth, urged onward by God the Impeller; by speech; by God who fashions created forms; by God who nourishes the cattle; by God the Mighty; by God, Lord of Devotion; by God the All-Seeing, in power; by God the Radiant, in brilliance; by the provision of God, the King; by God the All-Pervading.
