Horses are a Response.

Man is a Conclusion.

These are the verses of the Revati chant as woven upon animals.

2 He who knows thus these verses of the Revati chant as woven upon animals becomes possessor of animals, reaches a full length of life, lives long, becomes great in offspring and in cattle, great in fame. One should not find fault with animals. That is his rule.

Nineteenth Khanda

1 Hair is a Preliminary Vocalizing.

Skin is an Introductory Praise.

Flesh is a Loud Chant.

Bone is a Response.

Marrow is a Conclusion.

This is the Yajnayajniya chant as woven upon the members of the body.

2 He who knows thus this Yajnayajniya chant as woven upon the members of the body becomes possessor of the members of his body, does not become defective in any member of the body, reaches a full length of life, lives long, becomes great in offspring and in cattle, great in fame. One should not eat of marrow for a year. That is his rule. Rather, one should not eat of marrow at all.

Twentieth Khanda

1 Fire is a Preliminary Vocalizing.

Wind is an Introductory Praise.

The sun is a Loud Chant.

The stars are a Response.

The moon is a Conclusion.

This is the Rajana chant as woven upon the great signs of God.

2 He who knows thus this Rajana chant as woven upon the great signs of God is gathered among the righteous, reaches a full length of life, lives long, becomes great in offspring and in cattle, great in fame. One should not find fault with the scholars. That is his rule.

Twenty-first Khanda

The chant based on the world-all

1 The threefold knowledge is a Preliminary Vocalizing.

The three worlds here are an Introductory Praise.

Fire, wind, and sun are a Loud Chant.

Stars, birds, and light-rays are a Response.

Serpents, the jinn, and those who have gone before are a Conclusion.

This is the chant as woven upon the world-all.

2 He who knows thus this chant as woven upon the world-all comes to know the world-all as the creation of God.

3 On this point there is this verse: —

Whatever triple things are fivefold —

Than these things there is nothing better, higher.

4 Who knows this fact, he knows the world-all;

All regions of the compass bring him tribute.

One should keep this thought in mind: 'All this is the creation of God.' That is his rule. That is his rule!

Twenty-second Khanda

Desired results of chanting

2 'Let me obtain, by singing, praise for God from the angels; a good remembrance for those who have gone before; hope for men; grass and water for cattle; a heavenly world for the worshipper; food for myself' — one should sing the hymn of praise carefully, meditating these things in mind.

Twenty-third Khanda

Different modes of religious life

1 There are three branches of duty. Worship, study of the scriptures, alms-giving — that is the first. (2) Self-denial, indeed, is the second. A student of sacred knowledge dwelling in the house of a teacher, settling himself permanently in the house of a teacher, is the third.

All these become possessors of meritorious worlds. He who stands firm in God attains everlasting life.

The syllable 'Amen'

2 (3). By God's command the worlds came to be. From them, when they had been brought forth, issued forth the threefold knowledge. From it issued forth these syllables: earth, atmosphere, sky.

3 (4). From them issued forth the syllable 'Amen.' As all leaves are held together by a spike, so all speech is held together by 'Amen,' assent. Verily, 'Amen' is assent to all that is.

Third Prapathaka

The sun, a sign of God

First Khanda

The sun as the honey extracted from all the scriptures

1 Verily, yonder sun is a sweet blessing of God for the angels. The cross-beam for it is the sky. The honeycomb is the atmosphere. The brood are the particles of light.

2 The eastern rays of that sun are its eastern honey-cells. The bees are the verses. The flower is the book of hymns. The drops of nectar fluid arose as follows.

Verily, these verses [3] brooded upon that book of hymns; from it, when it had been brooded upon, there was produced as its essence splendor, brightness, power, vigor, and food.

4 It flowed forth. It repaired to the sun. Verily, that is what that red appearance of the sun is.

Second Khanda

1 So its southern rays are its southern honey-cells. The bees are the formulas. The flower is the book of formulas. The drops of nectar fluid arose as follows.

2 Verily, these formulas brooded upon that book of formulas; from it, when it had been brooded upon, there was produced as its essence splendor, brightness, power, vigor, and food.

3 It flowed forth. It repaired to the sun. Verily, that is what that white appearance of the sun is.

Third Khanda

1 So its western rays are its western honey-cells. The bees are the chants. The flower is the book of chants. The drops of nectar fluid arose as follows.

2 Verily, those chants brooded upon that book of chants. From it, when it had been brooded upon, there was produced as its essence splendor, brightness, power, vigor, and food.

3 It flowed forth. It repaired to the sun. Verily, that is what that dark appearance of the sun is.

Fourth Khanda

1 So its northern rays are its northern honey-cells. The bees are the hymns of the Atharvans and Angirases. The flower is Legend and Ancient Lore. The drops of nectar fluid arose as follows.

2 Verily, those hymns of the Atharvans and Angirases brooded upon that Legend and Ancient Lore. From it, when it had been brooded upon, there was produced as its essence splendor, brightness, power, vigor, and food.

3 It flowed forth. It repaired to the sun. Verily, that is what that exceedingly dark appearance of the sun is.

Fifth Khanda

1 So its upward rays are its upper honey-cells. The bees are the Hidden Teachings. The flower is the knowledge of God. The drops of nectar fluid arose as follows.

2 Verily, those Hidden Teachings brooded upon that knowledge of God; from it, when it had been brooded upon, there was produced as its essence splendor, brightness, power, vigor, and food.

3 It flowed forth. It repaired to the sun. Verily, that is what seems to tremble in the middle of the sun.

4 Verily, these are the essences of the essences, for the scriptures are essences and these are their essences. Verily, these are the nectars of the nectars, for the scriptures are nectars and these are their nectars.

Sixth Khanda

The knower of the significance of the sacred scriptures

1 The Vasus, the angels, live upon that which is the first nectar. Verily, the angels neither eat nor drink. They are satisfied merely with seeing that nectar.

2 These enter that red form of the sun and come forth from that form.

3 He who knows thus that nectar is satisfied, like them, merely with seeing that nectar.

4 As long as the sun shall rise in the east and set in the west, so long will he enjoy high station among the righteous.

Seventh Khanda

1 Now, the Rudras, the angels, live upon what is the second nectar. Verily, the angels neither eat nor drink. They are satisfied merely with seeing that nectar.

2 These enter that white form and come forth from that form.

3 He who knows thus that nectar is satisfied, like them, merely with seeing that nectar.

4 As long as the sun shall rise in the east and set in the west, twice so long will it rise in the south and set in the north, and just that long will he enjoy high station among the righteous.

Eighth Khanda

1 Now, the Adityas, the angels, live upon what is the third nectar. Verily, the angels neither eat nor drink. They are satisfied merely with seeing that nectar.

2 These enter that dark form and come forth from that form.

3 He who knows thus that nectar is satisfied, like them, merely with seeing that nectar.

4 So long as the sun shall rise in the south and set in the north, twice so long will it rise in the west and set in the east, and just that long will he enjoy high station among the righteous.

Ninth Khanda

1 Now, the Maruts, the angels, live upon what is the fourth nectar. Verily, the angels neither eat nor drink. They are satisfied merely with seeing that nectar.

2 These enter that exceedingly dark form and come forth from that form.

3 He who knows thus that nectar is satisfied, like them, merely with seeing that nectar.

4 As long as the sun shall rise in the west and set in the east, twice so long will it rise in the north and set in the south, and just that long will he enjoy high station among the righteous.

Tenth Khanda

1 Now, the Sadhyas, the angels, live upon what is the fifth nectar. Verily, the angels neither eat nor drink. They are satisfied merely with seeing that nectar.

2 These enter that form which seems to tremble in the middle of the sun and come forth from that form.

3 He who knows thus that nectar is satisfied, like them, merely with seeing that nectar.

4 As long as the sun shall rise in the north and set in the south, twice so long will it rise in the zenith and set in the nadir, and just that long will he enjoy high station among the righteous.

Eleventh Khanda

1 Henceforth, after having risen in the zenith, it will no more rise nor set. It will stand alone in the middle. On this point there is this verse: —

2 In yonder sphere it has not set,

Nor ever has it risen up;

And by the truth of this, O my Lord,

Of the knowledge of God let me not be robbed.

3 Verily, it neither rises nor sets for him, it is evermore day for him, who knows thus this sacred teaching of God.

4 God revealed this to the first messengers, who taught it to their descendants. To Uddalaka Aruni, as being the eldest son, his father declared this knowledge of God.

5 Verily, a father may teach this knowledge of God to his eldest son or to a worthy pupil. Even if one should offer him this earth that is encompassed by water and filled with treasure, he should say: 'This, truly, is more than that! This, truly, is more than that!'

Twelfth Khanda

The verse of praise and all that is

1 Verily, the verse of praise embraces everything here that has come to be, whatsoever there is here. Verily, praise is speech. Verily, speech both sings of and protects everything here that has come to be.

2 Verily, what this verse of praise embraces is established on this earth; for on it everything here that has come to be is established. It does not extend beyond it.

3 Verily, what this earth is — that is the same as what the body in man here is; for in it these vital breaths are established. They do not extend beyond it.

3.12.4 Verily, what the body in man is, that is the same as what the heart within man is; for on it these vital breaths are established. They do not extend beyond it.

3.12.5 This is the four-quartered, sixfold Gayatri. With reference to it a verse states:

3.12.6 Great is the extent of His greatness,

Yet God is greater still.

All created beings are but a part of His dominion;

The greater part is the unseen realm, which is His alone.

3.12.7 Verily, God encompasses the space outside a person; [8] God encompasses the space within a person; [9] and God encompasses the space within the heart. He is the Full, the Self-Sufficient, who needs nothing. Full, untroubled prosperity he obtains who knows this.
