Plain text of Chapter Ii
I God the Mighty
1 Pressers, bring forth the provision of God, each draught most excellent, for His sake,
The Brave, the Mighty, in gratitude and joy!
2 The two strong bay steeds, yoked by prayer, hither shall bring to us our friend:
Mighty God, lover of song, through our songs.
3 The Slayer of Vritra accepts the thanks of His servants. May He who gives a hundred aids
Approach, nor stay afar from us!
II God the Mighty
1 Let the gifts pass within Thee as the rivers flow into the sea,
O Mighty One, naught excelleth Thee.
2 Thou, wakeful and mighty, by Thy power hast provided the food of Soma juice,
Which, O Lord, is Thy gift to us now.
3 O Mighty One, Slayer of Vritra, let our gratitude be ready for Thee, our devotion be ready for Thy glory!
III God the Radiant
1 Help, Thou who knowest lauds, this work, a lovely hymn in praise of God the Healer,
Adorable in every house.
2 May this our God, great, limitless, glorious, excellently bright,
Urge us to holy thought and wealth.
3 Rich Lord of men, may He, the Radiant, the banner of the angels,
Refulgent, hear us through our lauds!
IV God the Mighty
1 Sing this, beside the flowing juice, to Him, your Hero, much invoked,
To praise Him as a mighty Bull!
2 He, excellent, withholdeth not His bounteous gift of wealth in kine.
When He hath listened to our songs.
3 May He with might unclose for us the cow's stall, whosesoe'er it be,
To which the slayer of the enemies of faith goes!
V God the All-Pervading
1 Through all this world His knowledge reached; thrice He established His decree, and the whole
Was gathered in His command.
2 God, the Guardian, whom none deceiveth, made three steps, thenceforth
Establishing His high decrees.
3 Look ye on God's works whereby the Friend of the Mighty, close allied,
Hath let His holy ways be seen.
4 The righteous evermore behold that loftiest place of God, like
An eye extended through the heavens.
5 This, God's station most sublime, the sages, ever-vigilant,
Lovers of holy song, light up.
6 May the angels help and favour us out of the place whence God's decree went forth
Over the back and ridge of earth.
VI God the Mighty
1 Let none, no, not Thy worshippers, delay Thee far away from us!
Even from far away come Thou unto our gathering, or listen already here!
2 For here, like rites on honey, those who pray to Thee sit by the provision they have poured.
Wealth-craving singers have on God set their hope, as men set foot upon a car.
VII God the Mighty
1 Sung is the song of ancient time: to God have ye said the prayer.
They have sung many a Brihati of worship, poured forth the worshipper's many thoughts.
2 God hath gathered mighty stores of wealth, and both the worlds, yea, and the sun.
Pure, brightly shining, mingled with the milk, the draughts of Soma are His gifts that gladden us.
VIII The Gift of God
1 For the Slayer of Vritra, this gift is poured out in gratitude,
And for the generous man, the hero sitting in his seat.
2 Friends, may the righteous, ye and we, obtain this most resplendent gift,
Gain what hath the fragrance of strength, win that whose home is very strength!
3 It is purified with the fleece, brown, golden-hued, beloved of all,
Flowing forth with exhilarating juice for all who serve.
IX God the Mighty
1 O Mighty One whose wealth is in Thyself, what mortal will attack this man?
The strong will win the spoil on the decisive day through faith in Thee, O Bountiful!
2 In battles with the foe urge on our mighty ones who give the treasures dear to Thee,
And may we with our leaders, O Lord of all! pass through all peril, led by Thee!
X God the Mighty
1 Come, priest, and of the savoury juice pour forth a yet more gladdening draught!
So is the Hero praised who ever prospers us.
2 O Lord, whom tawny coursers bear, praise such as Thine, preeminent,
None by his power or by his goodness hath attained.
3 We, seeking glory, have invoked this God of yours, the Lord of wealth,
Who must be magnified by constant devotion.
XI God the Radiant
1 Sing praise to Him, the Lord of light. The angels serve the God as His messengers,
To bear His bidding.
2 God the Radiant, the bounteous giver, bright with varied flames, laud Thou, O singer Sobhari,
Him who controls this sacred food, who hath first claim to our worship!
XII The Gift of God
1 Expressed by stones, O Soma, and urged through the long wool of the sheep,
Thou, entering the press-boards, even as men a fort, golden-hued, hast settled in the vats.
2 It beautifies itself through the sheep's long fine wool, the bounteous, like the racing steed,
Even the pure gift, which shall be the joy of sages and of holy bards.
XIII God the Mighty
1 Here, verily, yesterday we gave thanks to the Wielder of the Thunder.
Bring the provision poured forth for His sake to-day! Now range you by the glorious One!
2 Even the wolf, the savage beast that rends the sheep, follows the path of His decrees.
So graciously accepting, O Lord, this our praise, with wondrous thought come forth to us!
XIV God the Mighty and God the Radiant
1 O Mighty One and Radiant One, in your deeds of might ye deck heaven's lucid realms:
Famed is that hero strength of yours.
2 To the Mighty and the Radiant prayers go forward from the holy task.
Along the path of sacred Law.
3 Mighty and Radiant One, powers are Yours, Yours are what is offered and the abodes:
Good is Your zealous energy.
XV God the Mighty
1 Who knows what vital power he wins, giving thanks beside the flowing juice?
This is the fair-cheeked God who, in His might, breaks down the castles in His strength.
2 As a wild elephant rushes on, this way and that way mad with heat,
None may restrain Thee, yet come hither to our gathering! Thou movest mighty in Thy power.
3 When He, the Terrible, never overthrown, steadfast, made ready for the fight,
When the Bountiful God lists to His praiser's call, He will not stand aloof, but come.
XVI The Gift of God
1 The pure drops of Soma juice have been poured out,
For holy lore of every kind.
2 From heaven, from out the firmament the purifying stream hath been poured
Upon the back and ridge of earth.
3 The pure streams have been shed, the beautified swift drops,
Driving all enemies afar.
XVII God the Mighty and God the Radiant
1 The Mighty and the Radiant I invoke, joint victors, bounteous, unsubdued,
Foe-slayers, best to win the spoil.
2 O Mighty and Radiant, singers skilled in melody hymn You bringing lauds:
I choose You both to bring me food.
3 Together, with one mighty deed, Mighty and Radiant One, You shook down
The ninety forts which the enemies held.
XVIII God the Radiant
1 O Child of Strength, to Thee whose look is lovely, with devotion we
Have poured forth our songs.
2 To Thee for shelter are we come, as to the shade from fervent heat,
O Radiant One, who glitterest like gold.
3 Mighty as one who slays with shafts, or like a bull with sharpened horn,
Thou brakest down the forts.
XIX God the Radiant
1 To give eternal glow, we pray to the Holy One, the Lord of all mankind, Lord of the light of worship.
2 Who, furthering the light of Law, hath spread Himself to meet this work:
He sends the seasons, mighty One.
3 Love of what is and what shall be, in His beloved forms,
Shines forth alone as sovereign Lord.
