Plain text of Rig Veda - Book The Ninth · Hymn LXXXVIII. In Praise of God the Purifier
1 For thee this offering is poured out, O Mighty One: drink of this juice; for thee the stream is flowing,
Which thou thyself hast made and chosen, even the pure drop, for thy special drink to cheer thee.
2 Like a capacious car hath it been harnessed, the Mighty; to acquire abundant treasures.
Then in the worship they celebrated all triumphs won in the battle.
3 Like the wind with his team, moving at pleasure, most gracious when invoked, like both the Healers,
Thou art thyself like the Wealth-Giver, who grants all boons, like song-inspiring God the Nourisher.
4 Like the Mighty who hath done great deeds, thou art slayer of the Vrtras, destroyer of strongholds.
Like the horse who killed the brood of serpents, thus thou slayest every wrongdoer.
5 Like fire loosed amid the forest, fiercely he winneth splendour in the running waters.
Like one who fights, the roaring of the mighty, thus the Purifier sends his current.
6 These drops passing through the fleecy filter, like rain descending from the clouds of heaven,
Have been poured out and gathered into the beakers, swiftly like rivers running lowly seaward.
7 Flow onward like the potent band of the winds, like that celestial host whom none revileth.
Quickly be gracious unto us like waters, like worship victorious, thousand-fashioned.
8 Thine are the eternal statutes of the All-Seeing King, lofty and deep is thy glory.
All-pure art thou like the beloved Friend, adorable, like the Companion.
