Plain text of Rig Veda - Book The Ninth · Hymn LXVII. In Praise of God the Purifier
1 Thou, O Giver, hast a running stream, joyous, most strong in devotion: flow bounteously, bestowing wealth.
2 Poured forth as a cheerer of the people, flowing, best gladdener, thou art
A gift most fitting for God the Mighty (Indra).
3 Poured forth by pressing-stones, do thou with loud sound send us in a stream
Most excellent, illustrious might.
4 Urged forward, the pure drop floweth through the fleecy cloth: the Tawny One
With his loud sound hath brought us strength.
5 Thou flowest through the fleece, bringing felicities and fame,
And wealth in kine.
6 Hither bring us wealth in steeds and cattle hundredfold:
Bring wealth thousandfold.
7 In purifying, through the sieve, the rapid drops of juice
Come nigh in their course to the Mighty.
8 For the Mighty floweth the excellent, the noblest juice,
The Living for the Living One.
9 The shining maidens have sung aloud in praise
Of God the Purifier, dropping sweetness.
10 May God the Nourisher be our protector, and on all His paths
Bestow on us our share of blessing.
11 This gift flows like gladdening oil for those who are devoted:
He shall give us our share of blessing.
12 This juice, O Radiant One, flows like pure oil, poured out in Thy name:
He shall give us our share of blessing.
13 Flow onward in thy stream, begetter of the sages' speech:
A giver of wealth art thou, by the grace of God.
14 The Falcon dips within the jars: he wraps himself in his robe and goes
Loud sounding to the vats of wood.
15 Thy juice hath been poured out and gathered into the pitcher: like
A rapid hawk it rushes on.
16 Flow, rich in sweets, bringing delight to the servants of the Mighty.
17 They were sent forth to feed the righteous, like chariots that display their strength.
18 Brilliant, best givers of delight, these juices have sent forth the wind.
19 Bruised by the press-stones and extolled, thou goest to the sieve,
Giving the worshipping hero strength.
20 This juice, bruised by the pressing-stones and lauded, passes through the sieve,
Slayer of the wicked, through the fleece.
21 O God the Purifier, drive away the danger, whether near at hand
Or far remote, that finds me here.
22 This day may God the Purifier cleanse us with His purifying power,
Most active Purifier.
23 O God the Light, with the cleansing light diffused through all Thy glow,
Purify this prayer of ours.
24 Cleanse us with Thine own cleansing power, O Radiant One, bright with flame,
And by offerings made for Thy sake.
25 O God, Giver of light, by both of these, the offering and the purifying power,
Purify me on every side.
26 Cleanse us, O God, Giver of light, with the most sublime forms,
With forms of power and might.
27 May the company of the angels make me clean, and the angels make me pure by song.
Purify me, O servants of God; O Thou who knowest all that is born, make me pure.
28 Fill thyself full of juice, flow forth, thou with all thy stalks,
The best offering for the sake of God.
29 We with our homage have approached the Friend who seeks our wondering praise,
Young, strengthener of the solemn rite.
32 Whoever reads the essence stored by saints, the hymns of purification,
By God's grace receives water and butter, milk and honey.
