Plain text of Rig Veda - Book The Ninth · HYMN VI. The Provision of God (Soma Pavamana)
1 Flow on, O sap, with pleasant stream, a Bull devoted to God's service, Our Friend, unto the woollen sieve.
2 Pour hitherward that gladdening stream of thine,
And send us coursers full of strength.
3 Flow to the filter hitherward, pouring that ancient gladdening juice,
Streaming forth power and high renown.
4 Hither the sparkling drops have flowed, like waters down a steep descent
They have reached the Mighty One purified.
5 Which, having passed the filter, ten fingers cleanse, as 'twere a vigorous steed,
While it disports in the wood,-
6 The steer-strong juice with milk pour forth, for the feast and service of God,
To Him who bears away the draught.
7 Effused, the sap flows onward with its stream to the Mighty One, to God,
So that its milk may strengthen.
8 Essence of devotion, the juice effused flows quickly on: it keeps
Its ancient wisdom of a Sage.
9 So pouring forth, as the Mighty One's gift, strong drink, best Gladdener! for the feast,
Thou, even in secret, storest hymns.
