Plain text of Rig Veda - Book The Ninth · HYMN I. The Provision of God (Soma Pavamana)
1 In sweetest and most gladdening stream flow pure, O sap, on thy way,
Pressed out in thanks to the Mighty One, as His gift.
2 The fiend-queller, friend of all men, hath with the wood attained unto
Its place, its iron-fashioned home.
3 Be thou, as the gift of the Mighty One, most liberal:
Promote our wealthy princes' gifts.
4 Flow onward with thy juice unto the banquet of the righteous:
Flow hither for our strength and fame.
5 O Lord, we draw nigh to Thee, with this one object day by day:
To Thee alone our prayers are said.
6 By means of this eternal fleece may the sap be purified
As it foams forth.
7 Ten sister maids of slender form, the fingers, seize it within the press and hold
It firmly on the final day.
8 The maidens send it forth: they blow the skin musician-like and fuse
The triple foe-repelling meath.
9 Inviolable milch-kine round about it blend, as the Mighty One's gift,
The fresh young Soma with their milk.
10 In the wild raptures of this draught, the Mighty One slays all the Vrtras: He,
The Hero, pours His wealth on us.
