Plain text of Book The Seventh · Book 7, Hymn 44. The Swift Courser
1 I call on the swift courser, the first, to give you aid, the healers, the Bestower, the dawn, and the fire well kindled,
The Mighty, and the All-Pervading, the Nourisher, the Lord of prayer, the lights, heaven and earth, the waters, and the light.
2 When, rising, to the worship we hasten, awaking the swift courser with adorations,
Seating on sacred grass devotion, let us invoke the sage swift-hearing healers.
3 While I am thus arousing the swift courser I speak to the fire, earth, and dawn, and the sun,
The red, the brown of the ever mindful All-Seeing: may they ward off from us all grief and trouble.
4 Foremost is the swift courser, vigorous, in forefront of the cars, his way he knoweth,
Closely allied with the sun and with morning, the lights, and the elders, and the generous.
5 May the swift courser prepare the way we travel that we may pass along the path of Order.
May the fire bear us, and the heavenly army: hear us all, Mighty Ones whom none deceiveth.
