Plain text of Book The Seventh · Book 7, Hymn 40. The Powers of God

1 Be gathered all the audience of the assembly: let us begin their praise whose course is rapid.

Whate'er God the Light-giver this day produces, may we be where the Wealthy One distributes.

2 This, dealt from heaven, may both the worlds vouchsafe us, and the All-Seeing, the Mighty, the Lord of kindness, and the Friend.

May boundless mercy assign us riches, the wind and the Bestower make them ours for ever.

3 Strong be the man and full of power, O angels, whom ye, borne on by spotted coursers, favour.

Him, too, may the stream of wisdom and the light further, and there is none to rob him of his riches.

4 This All-Seeing is guide of Law, he, the Friend, and the Lord of kindness, the Kings, our work have finished.

Divine and foeless mercy quickly listens. May these deliver us unharmed from trouble.

5 With offerings made for God's sake I seek the favour of the branches of this swift-moving power, the bounteous All-Pervading.

Hence the Healer gained his healing strength: O healers, ye sought the house that hath celestial viands.

6 Be not thou angry here, O glowing Nourisher, for what the Lord and the Bounteous gave us.

May the swift-moving angels protect and bless us, and the wind send us rain, which wanders round us.

7 Now have both worlds been praised by the Vasisthas, and the holy Friend, the All-Seeing, and the Radiant.

May they, bright signs, make our song supremest. Preserve us evermore with blessings.
