Plain text of Mandala 4 · Hymn 44 God the Swift Helper

We will invoke this day Thy car, far-spreading, even the gathering of the sunlight: car praised in hymns, most ample, rich in treasure, fitted with seats, the car that beareth the sun.

Thou gainedst that glory by Thy power, Thou Lord of Heaven, by Thine own might and power. Food followeth close upon Thy bright appearing when stately horses in Thy chariot draw Thee.

Who bringeth Thee to-day for help with offered gifts, or with hymns to be gracious? Who, for the worship's ancient lover, turneth Thee hither, offering homage?

Borne on Thy golden car, Thou omnipresent! come to this worship of ours, O Truthful One. Be gracious to the pleasant offering; give riches to the people who adore Thee.

Come hitherward to us from earth, from heaven, borne on Thy golden chariot rolling lightly. Suffer not other worshippers to stay Thee: here art Thou bound by earlier bonds of friendship.

Now for us both, mete out, O Wonder-Worker, riches exceeding great with store of heroes, because the men have sent Thee praise, and Ajamilhas come to the laudation.

Whene'er I gratified You here together, Your grace was given us, O Thou rich in booty. Protect the singer of Thy praises: to Thee, O Truthful One, is my wish directed.
