In the name of the Great Living God, glorified be the exalted Light.

Sum-Kusta stands and recites and teaches. Sum bar Nu stands in faithfulness and says: "What have I done wrong in the house of the Great Living God, that the deficient age has come upon me? The Seven oppressed me, and the Twelve became a persecution to me. The first has forgotten me, and the second does not ask after me. I fell into great persecution and into sorrows that have no end. Grief struck me, and my tears flow and will not cease."

Nimrus stands and plots and says to her sons, the evil ones: "The chosen one has fallen into our hands; come, let us entangle him in our snares and let him hear a great uproar, that he may forget the heavenly speech. Let us catch him with our music and song, that he may forget the prayer of every hour. Let us bind him to us and make him head over us. Let us bring him into strong captivity, cast him into screaming darkness and hold him in our watch-houses, that he may forget the place from which he came. Let us loose great distress upon him, that he may stray from the milestone."

When the planets, the seducers of this world, said this, the head of the age, Sum bar Nu, answered them: "Go, go, you wicked ones, whose judge will be the fire. What you have said you shall not attain; what you have schemed against me will not come to pass. My eyes, which look up to God, do not wink this winking. My ears, which hear prayer and praise, do not listen to vain song. My mouth, which is full of prayer and praise, brings me no wicked song. My hands, which give alms, commit no murder on the earth. My heart, in which the remembrance of the Great Living God abides, is not led into wickedness by music and song. My soul and my body, perfected by truth, do not fall into the blazing fire. My body has not committed fornication; it does not fall into the meshes of the Seven. My knees, which kneel and sink down before the Living God, do not bow before idols and shrines and images. My feet, which walk the paths of truth, do not go in lies and deceit. I have kept myself without blemish, therefore I know no fear. God thought well of me; I have kept myself without blemish, therefore I have no fear of this world. I sought the shining dwelling, I raised my eyes to the heights, and with my soul I hoped for the house of God."

And praised be God.
