Plain text of The Treasure of Life
57.
In the name of God, the Ever-Living, the Great, may the sublime Light be glorified.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; the treasure am I, the treasure of the Mighty One; the treasure am I, the treasure of life; a crown was I from of old for the Mighty One.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; from of old I gave light to the angels and the dwellings, and became an adornment to the Jordan. An adornment I became to the Jordan, which was from of old, by which the angels shine. The Great One made me clear and brightened me and made me a garment, and every day they praise their Lord exceedingly.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; a crown I became to the king of glory. The angels shine through my splendour and praise God exceedingly.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; I settled upon the king of glory as an adornment, so that he shone in his understanding, became bright and radiant, and his form shone more than the worlds. When he shone and gave light to the angels and the dwellings in the ether, the king laid me as a garment about Nsab-Ziwa. Nsab-Ziwa then took me, brought me, and laid me as a garment over the Jordan. As a garment over the Jordan he laid me, through which the angels shine exceedingly.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life. The wicked are blind and do not see. I call them to the light, but they bury themselves in the darkness. "O you wicked," I call to them, "who sink down into the darkness, rise up and do not fall into the deep." I call to them, but the wicked do not hear and sink into the great Suf Sea. So the Jordan became a bridge for the angels; a bridge for the angels it became, while it cut off the wicked and cast them down into the great Suf Sea.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; a crown I became to Manda d-Haije. He granted me charge over the angels and the dwellings that are there.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; I became the illuminer of the worlds of light. Every day they praise the Great One, and through me they ascend and behold the place of light.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; a garment I became to the worlds of light.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; a guide I became to the Nasoraeans, who find praise and firmness through the name of God. They find praise and firmness through the name of God, and in His name they ascend and behold the place of light. For the men of proven piety who put me on, the eye of light became full. Full of light became their eye, and in their heart the knowledge of life took its place. He who puts on me, the treasure of life, does not hold wife and child dearer than his Lord, nor gold and silver, nor money and goods, nor bodily food, and envy has no place with him. Envy found no place with him, and he did not forget the prayer of the night. He did not forget the speeches and writings, and did not turn from the word of his Lord. He did not turn from the prayer of his Lord; therefore he does not fall into the great Suf Sea. He did not forget Sunday, nor leave aside the eve of the day. He did not forget the way of the Great One, the way of reward and almsgiving. He is taken away at the night prayer, taken in shining garments that came from the Great One. Angels fill up for him what is lacking, and what is empty they load full for him. If he carries a pure load, he is counted among the men of proven piety. He is counted among the men of proven piety who withdraw in the name of God the Illuminator. The treasure of life rested on them, it gave light to their form, and a way to the house of the Great One is built for them. I called out with a loud voice and directed the disciples here. I say to them: "The vine that bears fruit ascends; the one that bears none is cut off here. Whoever lets himself be enlightened and taught through me ascends and beholds the place of light; whoever does not let himself be enlightened and taught through me is cut off and falls into the great Suf Sea."
God is exalted and victorious, and victorious is the man who went forth to this place.
58.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; the Jordan is set up for me as a throne. The Jordans flow along with my fragrance, and the water rejoices in my splendour. In my splendour the water rejoices, and before my splendour it leaps. My splendour and the Jordan's splendour becomes glorious in it; glorious it becomes in it, and its form shines beyond measure.
I am the garment of the Mighty One, and everyone who puts me on rejoices and is of good cheer; whoever puts me on receives fragrance and becomes more glorious than all the world.
A garment I became to the king; I gave him glory and covered him from the angels. In my adornment he abides, and through me he rejoices and shines beyond measure. Through me they shine and are enlightened. He says: "Everyone who puts on this garment will shine, and his form will become glorious like mine." A crown I became to the king, and at the head of his dwelling a throne was set up for me in high splendour. When the throne was set up for me, all show their submission to God. All show their submission to God and praise Him exceedingly.
Then he spoke to Nsab the Great, and they clasped hands. He clothed him in some of his garments and laid me, the treasure of life, as a covering about him. As a covering about him he laid me, so that I covered his form. I say to him: "Go by the power of the treasure of life. All your works that you have chosen shall be firmly founded. Firmly founded shall all your works be, that you have chosen ... For he for whom a garment lies ready, he for whom a garment lies ready, will stand beside you and show you respect."
The treasure am I, the treasure of life; Sam-Haije sent me with the turbans of splendour from there to the diamond worlds. To the diamond worlds he sent me, to be a garment to the king, to give light to his form in his dwelling, to pour out high glory, that the angels may shine through his form. We travelled and went on; on ships of splendour we pressed through. We pressed through on ships of splendour until we came to the border house. Our splendour rose over the diamond worlds, and by the power of the treasure of life they shone. They shone by the power of the treasure of life, they go to meet the treasure of life and say to it: "Blessed be your coming, treasure of life, by whose fragrance the angels are fragrant, and through whom the dwellings shine." Thereupon Nsab the Great took the king into the truth of the Great One, and his hidden name is kept with Yokabar.
59.
The treasure am I, the treasure of life. Sam-Haije granted me a pure garment, through which the worlds shine. He granted me a girdle, a girdle of living water, in which there is no pain or affliction. He granted me a great crown, through whose splendour the worlds shine. He granted me fragrance, so that the water is fragrant through my scent. He granted me high power, shining and enlightened beyond measure. He granted me hidden helpers, and he set well-guarded ones over me. He granted me high victory, so that through me the Jordans become victorious. When they pronounce the name of God over the Jordan, then His blessing settles upon it, and through it the Jordan rises and the angels receive firmness. He grants them speech and answer to prayer, and lets them overcome what perishes. He grants them a shining form, and my strength and my mighty deeds are laid upon the Jordan. It was decreed for Nsab the Great that he received firmness through me. My strength gives light to the worlds, and it lets the bodies of living water complete the course of the water. By the power of God, and by the power of water and ether, the lands of splendour were made. By the power of God, and by the power of water and ether, the dwellings of splendour were made habitable. By the power of God, and by the power of water and ether, fruits, grapes and trees were made for the angels. Clouds of splendour were made for them, which bring speech and answer. They were given a pure sign, that they may be sealed by his power. They are sealed by his power and set up at pure boundaries. They are set up on thrones of splendour and called heads of the worlds. One becomes more glorious than another: he in whom the mystery and the speech of his fathers finds its place. He becomes more glorious than all the angels, glorious becomes his form, and he glitters and shines like the rays of splendour in the place of light.
By the power of God, and by the power of water and ether, illumination was granted to all the worlds of light. Illumination was granted to all the worlds of light, and we received charge over them. We gave light and brightness and perfected our works. We show the angels their way and bestow treasures upon the ages. We bestow upon the king a pure planting, because he was planted by us.
60.
We travelled and went on until we came to Sam the Great. We addressed Sam the Great and said to him: "Your splendour shines, and your form is brightened, for a part of your splendour rests upon us." Then we set Sam the Great over the dwellings and the Jordans for all times.
We travelled and went on until we came to Yawar-Ziwa. When we arrived at Yawar-Ziwa, we addressed him: "You are the eldest of the angels and the master of all the dwellings. We have planted a planting for you and have set you over the creatures of the place of light." Then Manda d-Haije clothed himself in garments from us, and parts of our power and our mystery rested upon him.
We travelled and went on until we came to the house of Joshamin. When we came to the house of Joshamin, our splendour rose over Joshamin. Our splendour rose over the house of Joshamin, and Joshamin was sunk in deep thought. When we saw him, we addressed him: "You were our great elder and our chief, and your splendour rose in the 'relief of the watch.' You walked in the house of God, and your works are proven in the place of light. 'Orderer of the orders' they have called you. You are a master of kindness." I gave him light and brightness and set him upright in his dwelling for all times.
We travelled and went on until we came to the house of Abathur. At our arrival at the house of Abathur, our splendour rose over Abathur. Abathur sprang up, rose from his throne and made a petition to God. The three angels said to him: "The women of the truth rejoice in that man who is clothed with the garment of splendour. He is clothed with the garment of splendour, and light is laid over his shoulder. Our elder weighs with the scale and marks with the pure mark." Thereupon we gave Abathur charge over the great Jordan of living water, over the souls that ascend to the bright dwelling, and over the illumination and the praise that ascend from the world. We set him over the Seven and the Twelve, that he may command them and be heard by them wholly. Whoever remains firm and steadfast will ascend on the paths of the truth to the place of light; whoever does not remain firm and steadfast perishes at the end of the world. I covered Abathur from the planets and kept his treasure in perfect manner. I made him shining and radiant, and we spread the fragrance of the ether over him. We made his works and his speech radiant in perfect manner.
And God is victorious.
