50.

... He who deals in wages and alms will ascend and behold the place of light. Woe to the powerful who rule over the forsaken and do no good works: they fall into the blazing fire; with their hands they stoke the coals, and with their lips they fan the flame. Those who acquire and leave it only to their children go and boil in the fire. They go and boil in the fire, and their glory is shut off from them. Woe to the simple fools who are hardened in their folly. Woe to the learners who are taught but do not wish to learn true wisdom; they will be lodged in the darkness. Woe to the teachers who are asked but will give nothing. Woe to the double tongue, which passes two different judgements in the same case. Woe to the evil heart, which is ruled by wickedness. Wickedness rules it, therefore it will come to an end on the great day of the end. Woe to the tyrant who is filled with the wrath of Satan. Woe to the builder who has raised no building for himself. He has raised no building for himself on which he could lean when he departs. Woe to the road-maker who has levelled no road for himself, that he may not slip when he walks upon it. Woe to him who gives good counsel but has given himself no counsel. Woe to him who had wealth and endowed nothing good from his goods; afterwards he searches in his pocket and finds nothing. Because he held it in his hand and would give nothing, he shall come to an end on the great day of the end. If someone blinds his eyes with his own hand, who shall be his physician? If someone destroys his own road with his own horns, who shall be his road-builder?

To you I speak and explain, you chosen and perfect ones who dwell in the world: who goes to the house of life and then returns to the dwelling of darkness? My chosen ones! Understand that this our world is perishing and its works fall to ruin. Its works fall apart and do not draw together. Lost is the beloved gold, and the silver is sought and not found. The shadows of deception and the service of this world vanish. The perfumes and the pleasures of this world vanish. The days and months and hours and fractions of hours come to an end, and become as though they had never been. The whole world ceases and comes to an end, as though it had never been. The vines of joy are torn out, and their song passes away and vanishes. The king leaves his crown behind, and the nobles, the lords of the world, leave the world in grief of heart. The world falls apart and ceases in the depths of the stench of darkness. You, my chosen ones, put no trust in this deceitful world.

My chosen ones! Blessed is he who has heard and become a believer; woe to him who has grown weary and stayed lying. Blessed is he who has heard and become a believer; he ascends and beholds the place of light. The wrongdoers, who have heard but have not become believers, turn their faces to the place of darkness; the mountain of darkness swallows them. Blessed is he who knows himself, and whose heart is a builder for him. He who takes heed of himself has no equal in the world.

My chosen ones! Stand firm and endure the persecution of the world. Endure the persecution of the world with a truthful, believing heart. Worship your Lord sincerely, that He may be a support to you.

My chosen ones! The way that souls must travel is long and without end. On it no parasangs are measured and no milestones set by measure. Every parasang is a watch-station, and at every watch-station sit bailiffs and toll-keepers. Forged and laid ready is the weapon, polished and laid ready is the iron. The pots are set down and boil, holding the souls of the wicked. The scale is set up and sits there. From a thousand it chooses one, one it chooses from a thousand, two from ten thousand. It chooses and brings up the souls that are zealous and show themselves worthy of the place of light.

God is exalted and victorious, and victorious is the man who went forth to this place.
