Plain text of Admonitions
47.
From the place of light I came forth, from you, radiant dwelling. I was clothed in garments of splendour, and a wreath of victories was set about my head. I came and found the Nasoraeans standing on the bank of the Jordan. I set up my seat and sat down like a father sitting among his sons. The good one sits and teaches his sons everything true in which there is no error.
My sons! See that you do not commit adultery; see that you do not steal. Those who commit adultery and steal do not ascend to the house of life. They do not ascend to the house of life, they do not behold the place of light.
My sons! See that you practise no sorcery and do not oppress the soul within the body. Sorcerers and forgers are cast into boiling pots, and fire is their punishment.
My sons! See that you do not move boundaries, that you do not shift the boundary stone. The eyes of those who move boundaries do not behold the light.
My sons! See that you do not deliver the servant into the hands of his master, nor the maidservant into the hands of her mistress; do not abandon the weak to the powerful. Whoever acts otherwise will be bound in a remote place, in the house of the toll-keepers; his eye sees only darkness, and his foot finds no firm ground.
My sons! See that you do not take as wife a maidservant who has not been freed, and thus bring your sons into the house of a master.
My sons! See that you are not diviners, and that your eyes give no signs. For diviners and those who wink will be assigned to the watch-stations. They will be assigned to the watch-stations and judged with a hard judgement.
My sons! See that you do not consume interest and interest upon interest, or you will be judged in the mountain of darkness.
My sons! See that you do not bow down to idols, satans and temples, to the service of images and the lust of this world, for a hard judgement will fall upon the idols and satans, and their worshippers will not ascend to the house of life. They will not ascend to the house of life and will not behold the place of light.
Heed what I have commanded you, and bear no witness of wickedness and falsehood; on account of the witness of wickedness and falsehood they will be called to account before the Judge. They will be called to account before the Judge who judges the whole world. He judges everyone according to his works and his merit.
My sons! Whatever is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbours either, for in the world to which you are going there is a heavy judgement and verdict. A heavy judgement and verdict there is in it, and every day preserved vessels are chosen in it. For everyone who is laden ascends, but whoever is empty is condemned here. Woe to the empty one who stands empty in the house of the toll-keepers. When he had it in his hand he gave nothing; there he will search in his pocket and find nothing. The wicked and the liars will be cast into the darkness. Into the blazing fire will be thrown the one into whose ear it was called, but who would not hear. I pointed to his eye, but he would not see; I pointed to him, but he would not see with his eye.
God is victorious, and victorious is the man who went forth to this place.
