Plain text of The Mysteries

42.

It is the voice of Manda d-Haije, who calls and enlightens his friends. He explains to the men of proven piety the mysteries of this world, the world full of mysteries and signs, the world full of mysteries that no human being has yet understood. The mystery of the earth is rest; the mystery of the anvil is the heaven. The mystery of light is the day; the mystery of darkness is the night. The living water ... The mystery of salt is the soul; the mystery of the sword is fire. The mystery of death is sleep; the mystery of the worlds is Adam; the mystery of the first is his son. The mystery of gentleness is to close the eyes and to know a hundred and one things. The mysteries of baptism are to say one thing and to hear a hundred and one. The mystery of the pearl is to say one thing and to hear a hundred and one. The mystery of love is to close the eyes on the roads and to know a hundred and one things. The mystery of poverty is to be sent out into the world. The mystery of the chosen is the myrtle, and the mystery of the body is the rose. For as the myrtle stays fresh and splendid, so the chosen are splendid; but as the rose falls apart, so the bodies fall apart. The bodies fall apart, and the measure of the world is filled.

Whence have you come, truthful man, you who recount the shameful things of this world? I am a man from the other world, on whose head the mark is set. The mark is set upon my head, and with it I ascend to the place of light.

God is exalted and victorious, and victorious is the man who went forth to this place.
