Plain text of 33

Yahya preaches in the nights, Yohana in the evenings of the night. Yahya preaches in the nights and says: "Do I not stand alone? Before my voice the wheels of heaven tremble and the chariots of heaven overturn, the storm fell silent and sat down in the wildernesses of the world, sun and moon weep and earth and heaven mourn."

Jesus opened his mouth and said to Yahya in Jerusalem: "I ask you, Yahya, by the Great Living God and by Sunday, whose name is dear. I ask you, Yahya, by the road that the men of tested piety walk without being hindered. Tell me: what does the form of the knife of Sauriel resemble? Tell me: when the soul leaves the body, in what does it clothe itself, and what does it resemble in the vain body? The soul does not resemble blood, that it should heat itself in the body and be hindered in it? The soul does not resemble wind, that it should go out into the mountains, lose itself there and be hindered? The soul does not resemble dew, that it should fall on the fruits and lose itself?"

When Jesus said this, Yahya cried out loudly, tears come to him without ceasing, and he says: "Far be it that the exalted King of light should have any share in impurities. The soul does not resemble blood, that it should heat itself in the body and be hindered. The soul does not resemble dew, that it should fall on the fruits and lose itself. The soul does not resemble wind, that it should go out into the mountains and be hindered. Tightly wrapped, the soul is brought into the vain body. When the soul has kept itself perfect, it ascends in a garment of splendour. The knife of Sauriel consists of three flames. When he drives her to haste, to carry her away, he looses the three flames against her. One he looses against her in the evening, the second at the crowing of the cock, the third he looses against her when the rays come forth. When the fire begins to rage, the soul slips out of the feet and knees. From the feet and knees it slips and approaches the hip. Then it leaves the hip, penetrates into the heart and seeks to take a place there. Then it falls into the breast and presses ... The eyes, the face and the lips of the man are seized by a twitching, and the tongue turns this way and that. Sauriel then sits on the eyebrows and says to her: 'Come out, soul! Why do you still guard the body?' Then she says to him: 'You want to fetch me out of the body, Sauriel; first show me my garment and clothe me with it, then fetch me out and take me away.' — 'First bring me your works and your reward,' he answers her, 'then I will show you your garment and clothe you.' — 'I did not know, Sauriel,' she says to him, 'that my time would come and that one would then send for me in haste, to do good works, so that you might bring me my garment and clothe me with it.' But he answers her: 'Has no one died before you, and has no one been carried out to the graveyard?' Then she says to him: 'Before me one died, and they carried him out to the graveyard. Women ran to and fro weeping, and men ran to and fro lamenting, as long as the body lay before them. When the soul leaves the body, four go out to the graveyard. Women ran to and fro weeping, men ran to and fro lamenting, and they cried out, until they lowered him into the pit. When they had lowered the vain body and covered it over, the women ceased from their laments. They filled in the pit, and the men went away. They left the body and the grave in haste and went and took the cup and ate bread and forgot the vain body. Now, if you will, Sauriel, let me stay here two more days; I will sell all my possessions and distribute them among my sons, and I will take my garment with me, the garment that ascends to the place of light.' But Sauriel answers her: 'Is there a child that has left its mother's womb and that one has brought back into its mother, that I should leave you in the dwelling of the wicked, so that you may make a division among your sons? I will take you away from here

and put on the garment of darkness, because you did not let yourself be warned in the world and did not love your way to the place of light. So you shall now be guarded in the house of the wicked until heaven and earth pass away."

And praised be God.
