Yahya preaches in the nights, Yohana in the evenings of the night. Yahya preaches in the nights and says: "The wheels and chariots of heaven trembled. Sun and moon weep, and the eyes of the she-demon Ruha shed tears." A voice says: "Yahya, you are like a burnt mountain that brings forth no vine blossoms in the world. You are like a dried-up river along which no plants are grown. You are like a deserted house of which everyone who sees it is afraid. You became a land without a master, a house without esteem. You became a false prophet, who leaves none behind to remember your name. Who will provide you with supplies, who with provisions, Yahya, and who will follow you to the burial place?"

When Yahya heard this, a tear gathered in his eye; a tear gathered in his eye, and he said: "It would be pleasant to take a wife, and glorious that children should be mine. But if only I do not take a wife and then sleep comes, and desire for her seizes me, and I neglect my prayer of the night. If only desire does not awake in me and I forget my Lord from my mind. If only desire does not awake in me and I neglect my prayer of every hour."

When Yahya said this, a letter came from the house of the angel Abathur: "Take a wife and found a lineage for yourself, and see to it that you do not let the world enter into you. In the night before Monday and the night before Tuesday seek your first bed. In the night before Wednesday and the night before Thursday devote yourself to your lofty prayer. In the night before Friday and the night before Saturday seek your first bed. In the night before Sunday and the night before the Day devote yourself to your lofty prayer. On Sunday take three and leave three, take three and leave three. See to it that you do not let the world enter into you."

Then a wife was created for Yahya from you, place of the faithful. At the first pregnancy Handan and Sarrath were born. At the middle pregnancy Bihram and Rahimath-Haijo were born. At the last pregnancy Nsab, Sam, Anhar-Ziwa and Sarrath were born. These three pregnancies took place in you, ruined Jerusalem.

Yahya opened his mouth and said to Anhar in Jerusalem: "Instruct your daughters, that they may not perish, and I will enlighten and teach my sons, that they may not be hindered." Then Anhar opened her mouth and said to Yahya in Jerusalem: "I bore sons in the world," she says to him, "but I did not bear their heart in the world. If they let themselves be taught, they will ascend to the place of light; if they do not let themselves be taught, the blazing fire will consume them."

Yahya opened his mouth and said to Anhar in Jerusalem: "When I leave the world, tell me what you will do after me." — "I will not eat and will not drink," she answers him, "until I see you again." — "You have spoken a lie, Anhar, and your word has come out in deceit. When a day comes in and a day goes out, you eat and drink and forget me from your mind. Rather I asked you by the Great Living God: When I leave the world, tell me what you will do after me." — "I will not wash and will not comb myself," she says to him, "until I see you again." — "You have again spoken a lie, Anhar, and your word has come out in deceit. When a month comes in and a month goes out, you wash and comb yourself and forget me from your mind. Again I asked you, Anhar, by the first bed in which we two lay: When I leave my body, tell me what you will do after me." — "I will put on no new garments," she answers him, "until I see you again." — "You have again spoken a lie, Anhar, and your word has come out in deceit. When a year comes in and a year goes out, you put on new garments and forget me from your mind."

"What do you not say to me, Yahya," she says to him, "and how you shatter my whole body! When you go, when will you return, that my eyes may fall into yours?" — "When a woman in childbed gives birth in Sheol and a bell is hung for her in the graveyard. When a picture is painted in Sheol, and then she goes out and a banquet is given in the graveyard. When a bride goes in procession in Sheol and a wedding is held in the graveyard. When the wedding youths borrow in Sheol and the repayment is made in the graveyard."

Then she answered him: "O Lord! How should it happen that a woman in childbed gives birth in Sheol and a bell is hung for her in the graveyard? Does one paint a picture in Sheol, and then go out and give a banquet in the graveyard? Does a bride go in procession in Sheol, and is a wedding held in the graveyard? Do the wedding youths borrow in Sheol, and is the repayment made in the graveyard?"

"If you know," he answers her, "that this does not happen, why do you press me with the question: When will you come back? I go away and do not return. Blessed is the day on which you still see me. If there were a going and returning, there would be no widow in the world. If there were a going and returning, there would be no orphans in the world. If there were a going and returning, there would be no masters and teachers in the world. If there were a going and returning, there would be no Nasoraeans in the world." Anhar then opened her mouth and said to Yahya in Jerusalem: "I will buy you a burial vault at great price and have a wooden enclosure for the graveyard built for you." But Yahya opened his mouth and said to Anhar in Jerusalem: "Why do you want to buy me a vault at great price and have an enclosure built for the graveyard? Do you trust that I will come back, that you say: no dust shall fall on him? Instead of buying a vault at great price, go rather and distribute bread for me. Instead of having an enclosure built for the graveyard, go rather and recite the prayers for the dead for me." — Anhar then opened her mouth and said to Yahya in Jerusalem: "You go away and forget me, and I shall be cut off from the world beyond in the dwelling of sinners."

But Yahya answered her: "If I forget you, may the bright dwelling forget me. If I forget you, may my eyes not fall upon Abathur. When I ascend to the house of God, your lament will rise in the graveyard."

Praised be God, and God is victorious.
