Plain text of A. A Hymn to God by the King
A hymn of praise to the Living God, who is glorified over the two horizons, whose sign is the sun disk (Aten), the giver of life for ever and ever, by the king who lives in truth, the Lord of the Two Lands, Aakhunaten, great in the duration of his life, a servant of God.
He saith:
Thou risest gloriously, O Thou Living God, Lord of Eternity! Thy sign, the sun disk (Aten), is sparkling, beautiful and mighty. Thy love is mighty and great; Thy light, of diverse colours, draws all faces toward Thee. Thy radiance shines brightly to make all hearts to live. Thou fillest the Two Lands with Thy love, O God, who art from everlasting. Maker of every land, Creator of whatsoever there is upon it, men and women, cattle, beasts of every kind, and trees of every kind that grow on the land.
They live when Thy light shines upon them. Thou art the Creator and Sustainer of what Thou hast made. Their eyes, when the sun rises, turn their gaze upon it, Thy sign. Thy rays at dawn light up the whole earth. Every heart beats high at the sight of Thy sign, for Thou art their Lord.
When the sun sets in the western horizon of heaven, they lie down in the same way as those who are dead. Their heads are wrapped up in cloth, their nostrils are blocked, until its rising takes place at dawn in the eastern horizon of heaven. Their hands are then lifted up in adoration of Thee; Thou vivifiest hearts with Thy beneficent acts, which are life.
Thou sendest forth Thy light, and every land is in festival. Singers, men and women, make joyful noises of praise in the house of worship, and in every place of worship in Aakhut-Aten, the Seat of Truth, with which Thou art well pleased. Within it are dedicated offerings of rich food, given in charity for Thy sake.
Thy servant is purified to perform the things which Thou willest, O God, when he appears in the appointed gatherings.
Every creature that Thou hast made leaps towards Thee; Thy honoured servant rejoices, his heart is glad, O Living God, whose sign appears in heaven every day.
The king saith:
I am Thy servant, seeking to please Thee, exalting Thy name. Thy strength and Thy power are established in my heart. Thou art the Living One; eternity is Thine attribute. Thou hast made the heavens to be remote
