Plain text of Book Two · Eleventh Section
A soul am I of the Great Life,
a soul am I of the mighty Life,
a soul am I of the Great Life.
Who let me dwell in the bodily garment?
However long I dwelt in it,
there was in it no want or fault.
I did not err and did not transgress
and accepted no fault.
No fault did I accept
and set no stumbling-blocks before me.
No mixture was in me,
I did not turn my speech from the speech of my Lord.
I shine by the power of my Lord,
by Him who let me dwell in the bodily garment.
He let me dwell in the bodily garment,
and I endured and stayed in it
and caused no fault to my Lord.
Let it not be said: The soul has forgotten what was entrusted to him,
the soul fell short of what he owed to his homeland.
With the strength and the speech of the soul
he entreats and obtains from his Lord.
He entreats and obtains:
He released me and took me out of the world.
He took me out and did not leave me there,
and in me was no want or fault.
My gentle Lord knew
that want and fault were not in me.
(I said:) "If it be Your will,
I shall come into Your presence."
My Lord sent me a messenger
and freed me from the world.
He freed me from the criminals
and all the forgers.
From all who are full of the sword,
who speak of violence and deceit.
He lifted me up to the house of life
and set me among the lights.
Each one praises and exalts me:
"Blessed and praised be you, soul,
who upheld and preserved the glory of your Lord.
You have freed yourself from them:
you came and set yourself upright among us.
To us you came and set yourself upright,
came and spoke with our speech, as it was."
And praised be God, the Great, in the light.
