In the name of God, the Great Life.

This is the mystery, the book, the teachings, the persuasion and the enlightenment which Manda dHaije taught and communicated to men of proven righteousness.

When the measure of Adam was full and he left his body, and his wife Hawwa gave herself to lamentation, wailing and pain, and gave herself to it for long, precious days, Satan (Ruha) came, sat before her and said to Hawwa: "Why do the pains of widows seize you?" She brought her the dirge for Adam with various manners of lament. She struck her hands together so that she brought a shaking upon the earth, and said: "My companion! Who has left you, that you sit quietly and do not rage?" Then Satan, and all the Liliths who were with her, began to raise lament, and she said to Hawwa: "Come, let us devote ourselves eagerly to lamentation. A noble woman who raises no lament for her husband is despised by her companions." Hawwa obeyed Satan, and Hawwa accepted everything that Satan said to her.

I, Hibil-Ziwa, knew that Hawwa had erred. She stood in brooding and distress, and her heart was divided. She stood in her fault and did not draw near to Adam.

Then my Lord called me, armed me, charged me and sent me, and said to me: "You, who help the tribes to flourish, who spread out the tribes of Adam! You led Adam into the bridal chamber. Go, speak to Hawwa and let her heart rest upon its support. Say to her: 'The face of the soul that has departed from you shines in joy; it finds abundant comfort and draws up the souls from there to itself. For the departed one who has parted from you, it is a decree, appointed before the sword. All people who bear witness to the call of God and speak in the speech of the world beyond depart according to the decree appointed before the sword, and go on the way of life and the path on which the men, the sons of salvation, went forth, who then relied upon God and the abodes of the beings, mighty in glory, and found deliverance. You also, when you dry your eyes of tears, take your arms from your head, remove anger and distress from your mind, and remove mourning and lamentation from your heart, will soon follow him according to the decree appointed before the sword, will go on the way of life and set out on the path of the men, the sons of salvation.'"

These words his Lord addressed to Hibil-Ziwa; then he went and came before Hawwa. He put on and smoothed his turban, sat down and spoke with Hawwa in friendly speech. Hawwa appeared strange in mind and wept before him. She said to him: "Have you seen the soul that has departed from me?"

He answered her: "The soul that has departed from you stands in glorious splendour; its face shines for it in the comfort it has found; it stands in the great joy of the light." He said further to her: "You practise the follies of the planets, you give yourself to mourning and lamentation, you weep, you are anxious and you grieve, and you bring anger and distress into your mind." Her estranged mind was brought back to the people of the world beyond. He directed her heart toward the house of life, took mourning and lamentation from her face, took the tear from her eyes and said to Hawwa: "Behold, you practise their follies, yet your sins will be forgiven you. For the planets led you astray. Now let your eyes shine, stand in the joy of glorious splendour, praise the soul that has departed from you, and send to it in joy prayer and praise."

Then Hawwa arose, left off mourning, lamentation and distress, the great, heavy lamentation, stood in praise and said: "My sins will be forgiven me, for Satan and the planets led me astray. I sat in lamentation and raised great, heavy lament." Hawwa then said to Hibil-Ziwa: "Why did you not take me with you, but sat down beside me? You have not calmed my embittered mind, nor removed mourning, lamentation and distress from my heart. You did not speak with me in the speech of the world beyond, did not converse with me in pleasant conversation, and did not speak with me in a pleasant voice."

Then I answered her: "To the chosen one who departed from you I was a guide. I led him past the watch-houses, past the shaking and the wrath of this world. I led him past Ptahil, who had been charged with his fashioning. I showed him the house of Abathur, and Abathur gave him his hand. I brought him to the Second, and he increased his radiance from his own. I brought him over the streams of water and showed him the shining, well-guarded ones in their abodes. I let him dwell in the chambers of the new palaces, which do not decay. I made him an abode of splendour; then I went and came to you."

Then she said to him: "Why was Anosh not with me, and did not devise secret, rebellious plots with me?" He answered her: "He did not settle in the house of an adversary, he did not suit the house of an enemy." Then she said to him: "Was I his adversary, if Adam hated him?" "You were not his adversary," he said to her, "and Adam did not hate him. The Seven were his adversaries, and the Twelve and Satan were his persecutors. All the planets plotted evil against him in anger."

Then Satan arose, and the planets; she turned in a circle, went out and said to them: "Hawwa shows herself unfaithful; she has been led by the strange voice into unfaithfulness. She speaks in the sweet speech, does not take Adam's name into her mouth with dirges, and raises no lament or mourning. She looked upon the stranger and was drawn to him, while she does not take our name into her mouth. What do we gain, that we sat with her and let her raise great, heavy mourning and lament, that Hawwa then stood up to praise, left mourning, lament and distress, stood up and shone through the strange call, spoke in the sweet speech, shone from the light in the presence of the stranger and said to him: 'Enlighten, enlighten me, my guide, you man who brightened me more than all the angels, you man who took my arms from my head, dried my eyes of tears, removed from me mourning, lament and distress, as well as the folly and slackness which the planets cast upon me.' She inclined her ear to the strange voice and spoke in the sweet speech."

Then I went from Hawwa and betook myself to my Lord. I told him what the planets and what Satan had done to Hawwa, to Adam and to the women; how I freed her from lament, dried her eyes of tears and set her to praise. She then forgot mourning, lament and distress, and the shaking which the planets had brought about. She stood up and raised her eyes to the house of life and to the path on which Manda dHaije had come. Daily, every day, she says: "When will he be inclined to come? Who will do my will, take me out of my body and let me go the way of the sons of salvation and the path of the pious men? I wish to depart according to the decree appointed before the sword and to see that messenger toward whom my eyes look up, the place where Manda dHaije dwells, the new palaces and the chambers of the new palaces that do not decay."

Then the planets turned against Hawwa, pursued her and let loose heavy persecution against her. But Hawwa stood in praise and called to God, asking that His messenger Manda dHaije be sent to her, and she addressed her words to God: "O my Lord, send Your messenger Manda dHaije to be my helper soon, and deliver me from this world, in which the ugly, destructive wicked ones daily plan evil against me and devise a secret plot against me. Because of the garment in which I stand, and because I do not listen to their speech, they take counsel in anger against us and devise ugly, secret plots against us, saying: 'We will cut down the sons of Adam by the sword.'"

Then Manda dHaije set out, came, took Hawwa from before the sword's decree and removed mourning and lamentation from her. When Hawwa saw Manda dHaije, she stretched herself out and bowed down in thanks to God, and said to him: "You have come at a good hour, messenger of my Lord; appoint the decree for me and take me away." — "Come, God has sent me and equipped me; He has sent me here to you, O soul, to lead you across to the treasure of your Lord."

Then Hawwa fell into sickness and pain for a day and a half. Then Satan came, sat before Hawwa and said to her: "Why do you depart from life, noble one, and leave the houses without masters, where I long for you? Where shall we go, and in what shall we trust?"

Then Hibil-Ziwa came, instructed Hawwa and took her from the body. And Hibil-Ziwa said to the planets: "Rise, carry away the works of your hands and take heed of them." Then Satan said to Hibil-Ziwa: "Everything that is desirable you take from us, and what is without value you leave to us." Then Manda dHaije said to Satan: "You and the works of your hands have found one another; but the soul that was in it shall ascend to the luminous dwelling." He admonished the tribes of Adam and said to them: "All of you, admonish one another, for the guardians are leaving you. I go to let Hawwa dwell in new chambers that do not decay; then I will come to you again, by God's leave lead you to salvation, guard you and keep you safe, and keep you in the place in the house of life, and go and establish abodes for you with your Lord."

Then a fool, who had acted foolishly, came and said to him: "May God's forbearance be granted to me; may I be led, rise up, be set before my Lord and be established in His new abode."

Then he answered him: "Everyone of you who has fallen will be raised up here among you." The sons of Adam are anxious and weep, and a tear presses together in their eyes. They say to him: "You ascend and go away; what do you leave us?" He answers them: "I go to assign your mother a place; then I will set out and come here."

Then I went, assigned Hawwa a place there in her abode, and spoke to God, the Great, concerning the tribe of Adam. Then God, the Great, said: "You are sent as a messenger to them."

Then I came, sent here into the ages and worlds. By God's leave I delivered little Sitil and guarded him from everything. I set a wreath of splendour upon him, delivered him from the world and assigned him a place in his abode. I gave him abundant splendour, delivered the sons of Adam and raised them to the luminous dwelling. This living tribe was founded, and the Seven who persecuted them ...

This is the persuasion and enlightenment which Manda dHaije taught and handed to the men of proven righteousness, formed of flesh and blood, who say that they will give themselves to the mourning and lamentation of the planets. He said: "For everyone who holds fast to this persuasion a place will be built in joy, as it was built for Adam, and his face will shine like Hawwa, the wife of Adam, whose face shone in the mighty hidden realms."

This is the persuasion which Manda dHaije granted to Adam and to all the voices of Adam. He said: "Everyone from whom a soul departs, let him give himself to gladness over it. Let him not give himself to great, heavy mourning and lamentation over it, but let him seek in true joy, and he will find, like Adam, who sought in the house of life and found, spoke and was heard."

Praised be God, the Living; God is victorious, and victorious are those who love His name.
