Plain text of Seventeenth Book · First Piece
In the name of the Great Living God.
Beyond, beyond I stand
with the words of the great, mighty One,
from whom seven lights came into being.
Beyond, beyond I stand,
I and the helpers who came into being with me.
I shine in the garment of the Great God,
I light up in the power of the mighty God.
Beyond, beyond I stand,
I and the cloud that came into being with me.
Beyond, beyond I stand,
in the hidden pillar that is set up in the prepared ether.
I shine through secret words,
I speak in excellent orders of prayer.
I shine through the secret word
which I brought with me from the place of light.
He created great splendour,
drew seven Jordans and set up dwellings in them.
He taught them about fellowship
and the faithfulness that has been from of old.
He taught them about the way
by which the great, mighty One ascended.
My enlightenment and my praise
the angels worship and praise in perfect manner.
He enlightened them in their dwellings
and set up wondrous lights before them.
When Adam was created,
the head of the age for his whole stock,
when Adam, the head of the age, was created,
a companion was formed for him.
His stock spread out from him,
and the fellowship of the Living God became mighty.
Mighty became the fellowship of the Living God,
which in every place is wondrous, shining and radiant.
The men of tested righteousness were created,
in whom there is no mixture or falsehood.
There was no mixture or falsehood in them,
there was no formation of darkness in them,
there was no hatred, jealousy or discord in them.
They were called the calm perfect ones,
who came forth from the calm.
They became mighty through their secret words,
and guardians were created before them.
They dwelt there, flourished and became mighty,
and the locks of their forehead were twisted on their heads.
They were enlightened about the great splendour
and about the light that blazes in the hidden place.
They were enlightened about the power and the firmness and the enlightenment
of Jawar Manda d-Haije, who has gone here.
Behold, the angels rejoiced in their word,
the perfect in their shining treasure.
At the gate of the house of the Living God
a throne was set up for the foremost of the beings of splendour.
Before the calm beings of splendour
a Jordan was drawn in perfect manner.
Three dwellings were founded
and seven vines created.
Seven vines were created,
which came from Jokabar-Ziwa.
They shine in their garments
and gleam in the splendour that came from beyond.
Splendour, light and radiance came from the great first One,
and He granted strength to all worlds.
The chosen, who came forth from all the fragrant vines,
separated themselves from them.
They ascended before the mighty Living God,
and He let them dwell in their dwellings.
As they sit in their dwellings,
they were enlightened about the earth of light.
They were enlightened about the power and the firmness and the enlightenment
of Jawar Manda d-Haije, who has gone here.
The Great Living God began
and spoke to Hibil-Ziwa.
He said to him:
"Go, teach the chosen
who dwell in the desolate wilderness.
Teach them about the hidden clouds
and about the splendour that was drawn out in every place.
Teach them about the canopies
and about the dwellings and Jordans that were created in every place.
Teach them about the great, inner, hidden eggs,
which came into being before the Lord of Greatness.
They came into being before the Lord of Greatness
and went here as angels.
Teach them about Nhur-Haije-Anana (the cloud),
in which the Lord of Greatness sits hidden.
Teach them about Kimsath-Anana,
in which the small Pirun sits hidden.
Teach them about the cloud Virgin,
in which Hibil-Ziwa dwells.
They shall be taught about Sahrath-Ebdath-Ukifrath-Anana (the cloud Watched, Made and Accomplished),
in which the great, mighty One sits.
They shall be taught about Jasmus-Anana,
in which Sarrath, the great, hidden, first vine, is hidden.
They shall be taught about Sidar-Kasia-Anana (the cloud, the hidden order of prayer),
in which the great Jura, the treasurer, is hidden.
They shall be taught about Tatagmur-Anana,
which was given to the firstborn of Josamin.
They shall be taught about Pihtath-Unihrath (she opened and shone) and
Nifqath-men-gau-maija (she came out of the water),
the two clouds that were given to Nsab and Anan-Nsab.
They shall be taught about Barath (she shone) and Ethrauribath (she became pre-eminent),
the two clouds
in which Sar and Sarwan dwell.
They shall be taught about Nhar (he shone) and Kbar (he became great),
the two clouds
in which Silmai and Nidbai dwell.
They shall be taught about Kbar-Anana,
which was given to his pure right hand.
They shall be taught about the cloud "the little boy,"
whose name is Saskel-Anana.
They shall be taught about Masqlel-Anana,
which was created and given to Ptahil.
They shall be taught about the multitudes, multitudes of prayers
that [rest] in the mind of the men of tested righteousness."
From this world strength, firmness and speech ascend to their place,
and in the earth only turbidity remains.
Of the prayers of the house of Ram-Ziwa they left eleven behind. Of the prayers of Anan, the man Anan, they left twenty-four behind. Of the prayers of the house of Jawar-Ziwa they left forty-four behind. Of the prayers of Jawar-Ziwa they left thirty-six behind. Of the prayers "The head of power and knowledge" ... They lifted their secret on high, and the power of the whole earth, all the murmuring that the angels murmured in this world.
Of the prayers "When the mighty, first Living God sits in His dwelling" they left thirty behind. Of the prayers "The great mystery and the saying that rest at the springs of water" they covered (some). Of the prayers "When Hibil-Ziwa wished," "When he went and came to the house of Abathur" they lifted (some) up from the world. Of the prayers "Above on the ether" they left two behind. Of the prayers of the house of Bihram they separated (some) and left them to the helpers. Of the prayers "Over the Tannas" they left seven behind.
For they knew that among the men of tested righteousness falsehood would form in the world.
Of these turbid shoots of the darkness
the form is blind and does not shine.
These Nasoraeans, who bring forth a wisdom of falsehood from within themselves
and send out turbid words into the world,
those Nasoraeans of falsehood
will come to an end on the great Day of the End.
Their name will be rooted out of the house of the Living God,
and their eyes will not behold the light.
The Living God is exalted and victorious,
and victorious is the man who has gone this way.
