Plain text of Sixteenth Book, Seventh Piece
The angel regrets having cast the soul into the body, and promises that the hour of deliverance will come for those confined on the earth.
At the gate of the house of the Living God
the angel bowed, sat down and preached.
He said:
"Since I was the foremost among the teachers,
I was a true guide to the scribes.
Since I was the foremost among the wise,
who beguiled me, so that I became a fool?
Who beguiled me, so that I became a fool
and cast the soul into the body?"
Further he said:
"When will the measure and number of the world be full
and it become wide for the confined, for whom it is narrow?
It will become wide for the noble,
who formerly possessed and now have nothing.
It will become wide for the noble,
who endure distress on the earth.
They endure distress on the earth,
then they shall be delivered from the power of the seven.
It will become wide for the confined, for whom it is narrow,
for the world has outwitted them,
outwitted them, and the one they call a deity in it."
Praised be You, my Lord,
who do not condemn the perfect.
