Teaching of the Chosen One, the messenger of the Living God, to the sons of Adam: only pious works, not earthly goods, lead to salvation.

The Chosen One preaches from beyond

and enlightens the sons of Adam,

these simple ones who have understood nothing.

He says to them:

"O you simple people,

on what do you build your trust?

When you arrive at the Suf-Sea,

with what will you cross the Suf-Sea?

When you arrive at the Mountain of Darkness,

with what will you cross the Mountain of Darkness?

When the time of your departure has come

and the departure from the body comes,

what will be your provision,

what your provision for the road?"

Then they answer him:

"Why, our gold and our silver

are our provision for the road.

Why, our possessions and our money

are a deliverance to us.

Why, our scourge and our ruling power

are a helper to us.

Why, what is made and created

is a support to us on our way."

"Not your gold, not your silver

is a provision for you.

Not your possessions, not your money

is a deliverance for you.

Not your scourge, not your ruling power

is a helper for you.

Not what is made, not what is created

is a support for you."

The worlds and generations then gathered

and betook themselves before the messenger of the Living God.

They say to him:

"By your life, by your life, messenger of the Living God,

reveal to us the secrets of the way."

Then he says to them:

"Let your hands give alms

and your heart stand in true faith.

Submit and worship the King of Light,

that He may be full of mercy toward you.

Let this be your provision,

this your provision for the road."

And praised be the Living God.
