Plain text of Sixteenth Book · Third Piece
Admonitions of Manda d-Haije to his friends.
It is the voice of Manda d-Haije,
who calls and teaches all his friends.
He says to them:
"My chosen ones! Make your heart submissive;
lighten, purify and wash,
calm your mind by faithfulness.
Do not love money,
which the worlds saw and came to love.
The worlds saw it and came to love it,
then went and ran in the drought.
My chosen ones! Love faithfulness and almsgiving,
that a crossing may be laid for you over the sea.
Over the sea may a crossing be laid for you,
on whose shore stand a thousand times a thousand.
On whose shore stand a thousand times a thousand,
and out of a hundred he counts one and leads him across.
Led across is he who is humble of heart,
truthful and believing.
Woe to the wicked and liars,
who forgot almsgiving and did not give it.
They forgot almsgiving and did not give it,
now they spend the night at the crossing.
They spend the night at the crossing,
and the wicked do not ascend to the place of light."
The Living God is exalted and victorious,
and victorious is the man who has gone this way.
