Plain text of Fifteenth Book, Eighteenth Piece
In the name of the Great Living God
be glorified the exalted Light.
An exalted voice of the Living God calls,
an exalted voice of the mighty Living God.
An exalted voice of the Living God calls:
Let everyone take heed of himself.
Blessed is he who takes heed of himself,
and whose heart is a builder to him.
Blessed are the truthful;
they ascend and behold the place of light.
Woe to the counsellor
who has given himself no counsel.
Woe to the road-builder
who has levelled no road for himself.
He has levelled no road for himself;
when he goes on it, shall he not slip?
Woe to the builder
who has erected no building before himself.
Woe to you, envy,
that the wicked are never sated with this world.
Woe to the wide belly,
which, however much it eats, is not full.
Woe to the double tongue,
which passes two different judgements on the same case.
Woe to the learners
who are taught without wishing to learn.
Woe to the simple fools
who remain stuck in their foolishness.
Woe to the wise man
who has not taught his wisdom.
Woe to the rulers
who rule over the forsaken
and do no fine works;
they fall into the blazing fire.
With their hands they stoke the coals,
with their lips they fan the blaze.
Woe to the evil heart
that wickedness rules.
Wickedness rules it,
therefore it will end with the end of the world.
It will end with the end of the world
and will not behold the place of light.
Blessed is he who has done good;
woe to him who has done evil.
Blessed is he who does good;
"Woe, woe!" cries he who does evil.
Woe to him who had
and did no good from his possessions.
He has committed sins for himself
and heaped up stumbling-blocks before himself.
Blessed is the man who had
and did good from his possessions.
He has prepared a reward for himself,
his works go before him.
His works go before him
and form a support for him on the way.
May your hands practise righteousness
and your heart remain firm in faith.
Let this be your provision for the road,
let it be the provision on your way.
Let this be your provision for the road,
and ascend, behold the place of light.
The Living God is victorious, and victorious is Manda d-Haije and those who love His name.
