In the name of the Great Living God

be glorified the exalted Light.

I was planted and came

into this world.

The Living God wished me and planted me

(for the journey) into this world.

He said:

"Up, up, good one,

descend to the (present) generation,

go to your brothers, the sons of salvation,

to whom lack has attached itself.

To them lack attached itself,

to them lack and defect attached themselves.

Lack and defect attached themselves to them,

and upheaval arose in the world."

Manda d-Haije then says to Him:

"Chosen One, who has chosen Himself!

Give me a mace of splendour,

that I may destroy the house and its builders;

that I may strike down the lack

and lead them victoriously up to the place of light."

When Manda d-Haije spoke thus,

his voice descended to all the worlds.

The angels who built the house weep,

and the inhabitants who are in it are terrified.

The inhabitants beat themselves and howl

and weep like women.

Ruha, the Satan, stands up,

she goes and betakes herself, like a woman in labour.

The sons of the angels clap their hands

and raise a lament for their father.

They weep for the head of the ages,

who is like them.

The sons say to the wicked one,

to the destroyer who has not beheld the Living God:

"Woe, you are afraid and anxious before him

whom they have sent here.

How will you, who created us,

protect us from him?"

They said further:

"... the stranger,

whom the Living God has sent in His wrath.

Now the house will be destroyed,

and its sons will be dissolved and fall down.

The treasure-house will be divided,

and you condemn us to remain in this world."

Then the wicked one said to his sons,

the treasure-keepers of the vain house:

"Be off and vanish from me,

you dead, who have not beheld the Living God.

If you are demons,

dwell in the wildernesses.

If you are devs,

hide yourselves and do not let yourselves be seen.

If you are angels of wondrous powers,

take the weapon and go to meet him.

Do not let the stranger

go into this world."

Then the sons answered the wicked one,

the destroyer who has not beheld the Living God:

"You, whom they clothed with their splendour,

are no match for the power of the strange man;

how shall we, who have no power,

begin a fight with him?"

As the wicked sit and deliberate,

he heard the voice of the devourers of splendour.

He struck against their firmament

and split a split in it.

A split he split

and pressed a path into their firmament.

The cisterns of the firmament melted

and fell as rain from the firmament.

Ruha took her sons to her bosom

and goes about from one place to another:

"I will hide you here

and let you escape the murderers.

In the earth I will hide you,

but the splendour of Manda d-Haije rests there."

He struck a split there in the earth of the wicked,

and it drove out everything that was in its interior.

Ruha took her sons to her bosom

and goes about from one place to another:

"My sons, I will hide you here

and let you escape the murderers.

In the sea I will hide you,

but the light of Manda d-Haije rests there.

There Manda d-Haije will slay you

and sink you in the great Suf-Sea."

Ruha took them to her bosom

and goes about from one place to another:

"My sons, I will hide you here

and let you escape the murderers.

In the mountain I will hide you,

but the power of Manda d-Haije rests there."

Then Ruha took her sons

and hid them in the cisterns of the firmament.

As the wicked sit and deliberate,

the strange man came flying.

The strange man came flying,

the messenger whom the Living God had sent.

He struck a split in the earth of the wicked,

and everything that was in its interior it drove and cast out.

The cisterns of the firmament poured forth,

and the sons of Ruha fell down like lightning.

Like lightning the sons of Ruha fell down

and fell into the hands of their slayer.

Ruha swears and lies

that she has not made his sons (the sons of Manda d-Haije) slaves.

Manda d-Haije knew

that Ruha swore and lied.

Manda d-Haije said

to the wicked and liars who dwell in the world:

"Where did you come from,

that you dwell in this world?

By whose dominion were you created,

you who lead generations and worlds astray?"

Then the wicked answered Manda d-Haije,

the messenger of all lights:

"By your life, Manda d-Haije,

we do not know where we are from.

Our place is the place of darkness,

in which there is no light.

Our place is the place of tumult,

in which there is no rest.

Our place is the place of confusion,

in which there is no order.

Our place is the place of the wicked,

in which there are no good."

Then Manda d-Haije said

to the wicked and liars who dwell in the world:

"You wicked and liars! I will let go of everything,

only my garment I will not let go.

I will not let go of my garment,

which was brought and thrown among you."

Then they took off their garment and let it go,

fell down and fell upon their faces.

Now they are like those

who do not come out of darkness into light.

They are like the monks,

whose hair falls down to their knees.

Their hair falls down to their knees,

and they do not come up from the field to the town.

They are like the heretics of deceit,

who sit on pillars of deceit.

They sit on pillars of deceit

and cut off their seed from the world.

Manda d-Haije said to the wicked and liars

who dwell in the world:

"Go, be like your first father,

who lies slain in the darkness.

Slain he lies in the darkness,

and the gloom comes and presses upon him.

Go, be like the king of darkness,

who raised his weapon against Manda d-Haije.

He raised his weapon against Manda d-Haije,

but Manda d-Haije overcame him and cast him into the darkness.

Go, be like the giant lord,

who reaches from the earth to the sky.

Against him the sons of salvation drew up in rank and file,

the angels who accept no bribe.

They killed him with sword and iron,

because he led all his devotees astray.

All his devotees he led astray

and laid fasts upon their mouths,

so that his name should not vanish from their midst."

Manda d-Haije calls with an exalted voice

and lets his wondrous call be heard:

"Many a one heard and became a believer

and held fast to the treasure and to the word.

To the treasure and to the word he held fast,

therefore he ascended and beheld the place of light.

The wicked, who wrap themselves up and lie down,

still sit fasting

and do not behold the place of light."

And the Living God is victorious.
