Plain text of Fifteenth Book (2)
him they will leave sitting in mourning and lament.
They will leave him sitting in mourning and lament,
and the crown of darkness will be laid on his head.
On his head the crown of darkness will be laid,
and he will be scourged with whips of fire.
He will be called to account in the blazing fire,
in glow, ice and burning,
in which the souls of the ...... are called to account.
For she (the daughter) has renounced the wages and almsgiving of Jawar
and separated from my Nasoraean faith.
She separated from my Nasoraean faith,
and he (her father) went and planted her in the turbid water.
If she prepares offerings for the Ekurs (idol temples),
judgement will be pronounced on her father.
If she goes to soothsayers and Chaldeans,
he will be called to account at the throne of the raging Nerig.
I speak to you of steadfastness and attentiveness,
and of Truth, which came from the great (God).
Everyone who smells the fragrance [of life]
and does not utter the name of God over it
will be called to account in the House of Abathur.
Everyone who smells the odour of the soothsayers and Chaldeans,
they will make smell the odour of decay.
Everyone who prepares offerings for the Ekurs and idols,
they will make climb the dark mountain.
Whoever enjoys the food of the banquets and feasting of the rebels
will be tormented on the throne of Nerig.
Everyone who enjoys the food of the offerings of the temples (of idols)
will die as the hmurthas of the house die.
Whoever keeps free from all these acts
will ascend and behold the place of light.
The souls of the ......
will be bound in the guard-houses of the rebels.
They will be bound in the guard-houses of the rebels
and die of thirst away from the world.
They will be given a handful of water a day to drink
and tormented for the ugly works they committed in the world. —
Far be it that the men of tested righteousness, the truthful and faithful, far be it that the good and faithful women, who gave alms and called the call of life, who descended to the Jordan, received baptism and accepted the pure sign, should come to know the torment of that place. I heeded the commandments which my brothers charged me with, I accepted them and carried them out in the most perfect way.
From the waters of the flood until the building of Jerusalem the souls ascended to the light. From the building of Jerusalem onward I dwelt among my disciples. I chose among them and let them ascend to the place of light. Afterwards I departed from the midst of my disciples until the coming of destruction. I went away and ascended to the abode of Truth. I said: "Blessed and again blessed is he who takes heed of himself." Because wickedness and impurity gained too much upon me, I went away and ascended to the abode of Truth. I said: "How grieved I am for my disciples who dwell at the end of that age. For they hold the pearls in contempt and hold them captive in the dwellings of revelry in music; therefore they sink into the great Suf-sea. Woe to my disciples who do not behold the place of light."
From the day of destruction until the end of the Tibil many souls will ascend to the light. When wickedness and impurity gained too much upon me, I could no longer dwell in this world. I ascended before God, my Lord, and He let me dwell in His own abode. I said: "Blessed is he who takes heed of himself. A man who takes heed of himself has not his equal in the world. He will be honoured in the light and, like the great, will be great in the place of light."
The light is victorious in the House of Perfection, God is victorious.
Second Piece
Abel, the gentle vine, is equipped by God and furnished with knowledge and sent to Tarwan to teach the angels created there by God. He carries out the command.
In the name of the great God
be glorified the exalted light. —
I am a gentle vine,
who was planted [created] from the place of glorious splendour.
I was planted from the place of glorious splendour,
and the great (God) was my planter (creator).
The Great One was my planter
and added radiance to that which I already had.
Radiance to that which I already had He laid upon me,
a well-kept form that was kept for me in the hidden.
He created me, made me firm and gave me commands,
He equipped me by His word and made helpers for me.
He granted me speech and hearing,
great and unbounded.
He taught me of the great radiance
and of the light that blazes in the hidden place.
He equipped me by His word
and made helpers for me.
The helpers whom He made for me
are wondrous and without number.
The Great One called me and gave me commands
and made me firm in the hidden place.
He granted me secret sayings
and taught me about every thing.
He taught me about the first ones
and about the Great One who was from of old.
He taught me with enlightenment
and made me firm by His wondrous call.
My Lord blessed me with His blessing
and laid something of His planting upon me.
He granted me praise,
wide and unbounded.
He granted me enlightenment,
which is without lack and fault.
He kissed me with His pure mouth
and covered me with inner garments.
He set me in a cloud, a cloud of radiance,
and sent me to the pure Tarwan.
He said:
"Go to the pure Tarwan
and teach the angels who have settled there.
Grant them radiance and light,
that they may sit in mutual enlightenment.
Grant them of thy praise,
that they may obtain their standing in the House of Life.
Take them into the great fellowship,
that they be counted to thy number.
They shall be counted to thy number,
and in them shall be neither lack nor fault.
Teach them about the angels of the pure Tarwan
and about all beings of light.
Teach them about the great light of God
and about the angels and dwellings that are there.
Teach them about the hidden vines
and the pure trees that shine over the Jordans.
Teach them about the worlds of the Lord of Greatness
and about the radiance and the light.
Speak to them of the pure Hauraran,
in which this wondrous voice was called.
Speak to them of the earth of the ether,
which [Jawar] built and founded in so excellent a manner.
So Jawar built and founded it,
and so he was its builder.
Its builder he was thus,
then he called in it a wondrous call.
So he founded in it dwellings
and spread radiance over them in high measure.
Then they made him honoured over the light
and set angels at his right and left,
that they might keep him company,
They shall keep him company
and set him upright in his dwelling.
Teach them about the great, upper fruit
and the dwellings which they founded in the hidden place.
Teach them about the great, first soul
and the great Jordan in which he was baptised."
I, Abel, went forth from the presence of my Lord
and betook myself to the pure Tarwan.
