Plain text of Second Book (2)

My chosen! Have no trust in the kings, nobles, rulers and oppressors who are in the world, nor in military might, armour, war, battle, band and army, which they gather together, and captives whom they bring together in the world, nor in the gold, silver, money and goods of this world. Then their kingship vanishes, and their scourge and their power of rule are no support to them. They perish and leave it behind, they go and boil in the fire, until the day, the Day of Judgement, until the hour, the hours of redemption. (121)

My chosen! Show no contempt for what is incumbent on you to do in the world. Show uprightness, gentleness, modesty and kindness, which are of the nature of light. Show forbearance and faithful friendship, which are of the nature of light. (156)

If someone turns to you with a request and you have the means, do not withhold it from him. For if a needy person who is worthy turns to his neighbour with a request, and the latter, though he is able and has the power, gives him nothing, grace will be withheld from him.

Grant shelter and lodging, bread and water to him who travels in a foreign land, and provide him with provisions for his journey.

Whoever has no knowledge and has not become wise in this wisdom, draw near to him and teach him, lest the deceivers fall upon him.

O you men who take wives, O you women who come to husbands, love, examine and take. Then, if it is decreed for you and she is loved in your heart, take her. If you do not receive children, bear it as a sickness upon the bed. If she practises ugly deeds, she has no mercy upon herself. Keep away from her, let no love be granted to her and separate from her. For she is like the affliction for which there is no healing. (157)

Do not take as wife a slave woman who has not been freed by her master, and so do not bring your children into a master's house. If you take one, redeem her, and you will be thanked. (158)

Do not take as wife a slave woman who has not been freed, and so do not bring your children into a master's house. If sons and daughters are decreed for someone and he brings them into a master's house, then on the day when the servant fails and his master is angry with him, your children will suffer harm. (158)

Receive faithful love from a faithful wife who is yours by the will of your Lord. Do not despise one another until your measure is full. If someone betrays his wife, in whom there is neither deceit nor fault, and loves and lusts after the pleasure of this world, then deceit and fault are in him. He will be condemned in the house of judgement and lodged in darkness. (159)

When you receive children, teach them, as soon as they understand knowledge, prayer and praise, in which there is no mixture and no lie. If you show them the ways of truth and faith and they do not accept it, you are free from their sins. (160)

If someone among you who is evil turns away once from the word of his Lord, raise him up again and support him. If a vine turns away a second time, raise it up again and support it. If a vine turns away a third time, raise it up again and support it. If you support it but it will not be supported, then pull out the bad vine, bring it to the door of the house of worship, let it hear hymns and orders of prayer, show it scriptures and words, that its heart and mind may be enlightened by them. If he hears, bears witness and lets himself be awakened, then love him, bring him back to his place and do not condemn him. If he does not hear, bear witness and let himself be awakened, then pull out the bad vine, bring a good one and plant it in its place. Because it was shown to his eye but he would not see, and called into his ear but he would not hear, he shall be a portion of the consuming fire. (161)

If you see wretched, persecuted and perfect people who are afflicted with a bodily ailment or infirmity, do not laugh at them in your heart. For only bodies formed of flesh and blood become contemptible through sufferings and infirmities. The bodies become contemptible through sufferings and infirmities, but the soul does not become contemptible through sufferings and infirmities. The soul becomes contemptible only through the ugly deeds it commits while it dwells in the prison of the body. (162)

Those who will not accept wisdom sink into the darkness with their bodies, like those who do the will of the body. Those who do the will of Satan go with Satan into the fire.

Whoever does the will of the high King of Light will not be humbled in this world. When his measure is full, angels of light go out to meet him. With angels of light he ascends, and his countenance shines and glows. Each one gives him of his radiance and covers him with his own light; they set wreaths of victory from their own upon his head, and so he is made radiant like the angels of radiance. They teach him rich, imperishable praise, and he stands in a cloud of light and worships and glorifies the high King of Light. He is merciful to him and grants him rich, great grace in the place of light. He is established with a firmness of security that has nothing of a bodily garment. His form is pure, imperishable light. Everyone who stands truthfully and reliably in the first faith receives permanence for all eternity.

My chosen! Do not praise the planets that wander by day and night, since the day radiance and brightness were bestowed on them to illuminate the worlds. (163)

Do not praise the blazing sun, to which some give names that belong to God alone, and other names that are not revealed in the world. (165)

When Jerusalem, the city of the Jews, is built, Abraham the prophet is named in Jerusalem.

God calls Moses from Mount Sinai; He acknowledged Moses and gave him the Scripture. Moses summoned a people for himself and made for himself a house of prayer. So arose the people of the Jews. They bring offerings of the fat of animals to God. They are called the people of the house of Israel. They circumcise themselves. Some of them denied the word of their Lord and turned away from this faith. (166)

I teach you, my disciples, you chosen, perfect and believing, who are to live in that age: Do nothing of the works of those who deny the word of their Lord. Do not mingle with them, and do not take a wife from those servants who do not worship their Lord and turn away from the word of their Lord. They deny Moses, the messenger of God, who brought them the law. They falsify it, and they falsify the works of Abraham, the messenger of God. When his Lord took Abraham as a friend, he circumcised himself, separated from his father, went out into a foreign land, into the world, founded a place for himself and made for himself a house of prayer. Do not mingle with those Jews who do not stand together in one word. (167)

From the children of Adam peoples and tongues went forth. (168)

My Lord called and charged me to teach you about the peoples of lie, and about the prophets of lie and the messengers of error: They are born of women. From the body of women they enter into bodies and take on bodily form. They twist the first teaching, and bring lie, deception and illusion into the world. They call themselves prophets and say: we are messengers. (169)

I, the first messenger, say and teach to all the children of Adam who were, who are, and who are to be born in that age: Do not listen to the speech of the angels of error, who fall away and drive the children of men to fall away. They make them greedy for gold and silver, money, goods and possessions, and captivate them with false images, vain likenesses and fabrications, with song and the pleasure of this world. (170. 171)

At times they let loose sword, sabre, blow, battle, war, fear and terror against men, and fill them with fear and dread. They pretend that they fear God, worship Him and acknowledge Him. (172)

At times they approach the children of Adam with cunning, humility and flattery, with sweetness, craft and deception, and take their hearts captive. They put the name of God into their mouths and multiply deception and lie. In lie they fast and pray and give alms. They write books and set up warnings for them. They adapt themselves also to the wisdom which the Great, the Exalted has given me and I have brought you, and repeat it. They mix among it words by which the souls of the believers are hindered; they twist their hearts and bring apostasy into the world. (173)

Now I say to you, my disciples: Do not listen to the speech of the false prophets, and do not waver from the way of your Lord. For the angels of error take on the form of us, the three messengers who went into the world. I told you: they too go about in the world, yet they are not like us. Their radiance is no radiance, their garment is a garment of fire. Their garment is like fire, their dress is of gloomy darkness. Indeed they pose as prophets and imitate our garment. (174)

I say to you, you perfect and believing: do not fall away from the word of your Lord. Clothe yourselves in white and cover yourselves with white, like the garments of living water. Put white headbands about your heads, like the wreaths of radiance which the angels of radiance place about their heads. Bind girdles about your waists, like the girdles of radiance which the angels of light bind about their waists. Cover your body with white wraps, that glory may rest upon you. Take staves in your hand, like the staves of living water which the angels of light carry. (175)

O you believers and perfect! Say nothing that you do not know and that has not been revealed to you. There is no one to whom the hidden things are revealed, except the Great, the Exalted, the Lord of Majesty, the Lord of all worlds. (176)

O you believers and perfect! Arm yourselves with an armour that is not of iron. Let your armour be faith and the belief in truth. (177)

As you see wisdom with your eyes, call with your mouth and hear with your ears, so act. For those who see with their eyes, call with their mouth, hear with their ears, and yet do no good with their hands are like the bad vine that drinks water while fruits, grapes and trees wither; it is pulled out. The lie turns away from them at the judgement of death. They did not know and did not understand; now they will be called to account according to their works. The witnesses testify against them, who go at the right and left of all the children of Adam. (178)

I teach you as the Great One has commanded me. I proclaim to you the light, which is vast and endless. I proclaim to you the darkness and the blazing fire, which is without rest or mercy. I proclaim to you Satan, who is without strength or firmness, who perishes in the blazing fire, in the nature from which he came forth. (179)

Further I proclaim to you, you Nasoraeans who are in this world, who arise and are yet to be born:

In the first age the world is cut down by sword and plague. The souls depart from their bodies and ascend to the light. For it is decreed for the perfect and believing that they depart from their bodies at that departing. For you, Adam, it is decreed to dwell a thousand years in the world, and before the sword you will ascend. Then your wife Hawwa will depart, then all your generations, except Ram the man and Rud the woman. From them the world will multiply, from them the world will be raised anew. All will call in one word and one praise, which I have brought into this world, with which they shall give praise. (181-183)

Then the world will be cut down by fire. For it is decreed for the children of the great tribe of the Living that they depart from their bodies at that departing, except two, Surbai the man and Sarhabel the woman, from whom the world shall multiply. Surbai the man will be called the head of the age. The souls that pass away through the fire all ascend to the light, because they do not falsify the teaching that their Lord sent them. (184)

From the age of Ram and Rud to the age of Surbai and Sarhabel the people will multiply. With these words they will give praise and not turn away from the word of glory. (185)

When twenty-five ages have passed, the world will be cut down by water. The people will depart from their bodies by death through water. For it is written for that age that the bodies die by water, but the souls ascend to the light, except Noah the man, and Shem, Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, who shall be saved from death by water. From them the world shall be raised anew. (186)

From Surbai and Sarhabel to the age of Noah there are fifteen generations. Then I and the two angels, my brothers, will proclaim the call and the praise in the world. (187. 188)

From Noah of the Ark until Abraham the prophet appears, until Moses appears, until the city Jerusalem is built, there are six generations. (189)

Then King Solomon, the son of David, is born and becomes king of Judah. He builds the place Jerusalem, and the jinn and demons are made subject to him by God's leave. (190)

From Moses, the son of Amram, until the end of the ages there will be believers in the truth; they will be found faithful in this faith. Then false prophets will arise and appear in every city. The peoples will divide, the tongues will divide over every city, over every place. The Jews will be scattered over every city. The world will split, and tyrants will seize every place. One place will fall upon another, one city will make war upon another, and they will shed streams of blood in the world. Each one seeks an advantage for himself and fights for what is not his. (191)

The seven deceiving angels deceive them and call them to themselves, whereupon they worship them. The first deceiver is Shamish by name (the sun). The second is Dlibat, Estra, Amamit by name (Venus). The third is Nbu (Mercury), the forger, the false messiah, who falsifies the first teaching. The fourth is Sin, whose name is Moon, whose name is Saurel. The fifth is Kewan (Saturn), the sixth Bel (Jupiter), the seventh Nerig (Mars). (192)

The demons of the house of Shamish scatter lie, arrogance, boasting and fullness of belly over the children of men and lead them astray. He sends messengers out into the world, and they worship the sun and moon and venerate fire. (193)

The demons of the house of Estra go to the false messiah and cast apostasy into the world. They cast adultery, fornication, song, dance and lewdness into the hearts of the children of men. The witches and sorcerers settle on mountains and heights, in every place. They instruct the children of men, spread among them, take them from their houses and their families, carry them off to mountains and heights, bring them out to the plains and make them sit for them. They love filth, and love transgression and deceit. In the fire that false messiah appears to them and calls his worshippers. (194. 195)

The demons of the house of Kewan cast lamentation and weeping into the hearts of men. They draw them away from grace and carry them off to the mountains. (196)

The demons of the house of Nerig fall upon the children of men and flay them. (197)

I teach you, my disciples, about the lying messiah. When he appears the first time, he shows them wonders in the fire. He is clothed with fire, wrapped in fire. Amunel is his name, and he calls himself "the Saviour." His dwelling is on fire, and he sits in a chariot of fire. He comes and stands before you, takes you captive and says to you: "Come, step to me into the fire without being burned. Believe in me." (198)

When he presses you and you go over to him, do not acknowledge him, and do not turn away from your faith. Mention the name of the high King of Light, who stands above all worlds. Let His name be in your heart and your mouth, and may His power rest with you. (199)

Then I tell you, my disciples, that he also takes on another form. He stands before you, clothed in the glow of fire, wrapped in fire. Yet he is hidden from your eyes, for he dazzles the eyes. He says to you: "It is I who have come forth from God." That deceiver says: "I am a god, my Father sent me here." He says to you: "I am the first messenger, I am Hibil-Ziwa, who have come from the upper height." But do not acknowledge him. For I am not clothed in a garment of fire, and I do not reveal myself to the children of men in that age. Rather Enos-Uthra comes, before the floods, to Noah and his kin.

Then, when the world is cut down by the floods of water and calm returns again, the children of men will multiply from Noah and his generations.

When the children of Israel disperse, the city Jerusalem will be built. Enos-Uthra comes and goes to Jerusalem. Two thousand years Enos goes about in the world. His garment is a garment of rain-clouds and veils his radiance. His garment is not bodily, and neither heat nor fury is in him. (200)

He comes into this world in the years of Pilate, who is then ruler in that land. Enos-Uthra comes into the world with the power of the high King of Light. He heals the sick, makes the blind see, cleanses the lepers, raises up the crippled so that they can walk, and makes the deaf and dumb speak. By the power of the high King of Light, and by His leave, he brings the dead to life. He wins believers among the Jews and shows them: there is life and there is death, there is light and there is darkness and blazing fire, there is truth and there is error. He leads out each of them who is zealous and firm in faith in the One, the Lord of all worlds. (201)

Then, when he has shown the truth to his friends, the city Jerusalem is laid waste, and we ascend to the worlds of light and the dwellings of radiance, we no longer reveal ourselves in the world, until the time comes and the measure of the world is full. (202)

Then, at the end of the ages, we come to the souls of the perfect and to the souls of the guilty, who sinned and transgressed in the world and therefore dwell in darkness. Each will be delivered from the fire and the darkness according to his works, except everyone who has committed the great sin and destroyed a person from among the perfect and believing children of Adam. Likewise whoever turns away from the word of his Lord, to whom it has been spoken, but who would not hear and become a believer. Likewise whoever of his own will worships Satan, does not repent, and thus condemns himself. Likewise whoever turns away from the river, the sign and the purification in the flowing water of the river, who is purified in the name of the First Living One and then denies Him: his root will be cut off from the worlds of light. Then we come into this world with the radiance of the sun, with the brightness of the moon, with the shimmer of the stars, with the power of the wind, with the glow that has been given to the fire, and with the brightness that has been given to the living water. Until that time we do not reveal ourselves in the world.

Further I tell you, my believers: When Nbu comes from the midst of the angels of error, the deceiving spirit calls him. On the circle of heaven and earth, on the mountain Tabdana, the angels of error assemble. They anoint Nbu from the horn of oil and clothe him with fire.

Further the false messiah, the deceiver, appears in another form. He stands before you and says to you: "I walk over the water. Come with me, you will not drown." But do not do it, and do not believe him. If he presses you and kills some of you, do not be afraid. If he kills, he kills only your body, but your soul will dwell on the earth of light. Do not be alarmed, do not be afraid, and do not fear the vain false messiah and him who alters the words.

Further he tears up fruits, vines and trees from this side of the sea and throws them to the other side of the sea. Then it sprouts on the spot and bears fruit.

Further he makes a ladder, throws it from the ground up to heaven, climbs up and down, hovers between heaven and earth and says to you: "See, I come from on high; I am your lord." But do not believe him. For the ladder of the false messiah is made by deception, sorcery and illusion. Where the false messiah stands, he dazzles the eyes, veils the radiance of the sun and says to the sun: "Veil your radiance." But the sun does not veil its radiance. Then he creates darkness by sorcery in the place where he stands and says to you: "See, I spoke to the sun, and it veiled its radiance, for I am a god, the saviour."

I now say to you, children of men: "Do not believe him. Rather praise the high King of Light, the Lord of all worlds. Do not praise the vain false messiah. He leads astray the worlds, generations and peoples, and they do not know the nature from which he came forth."
