May forgiveness of sins be granted to me, N, and to my wife, N.

I sit between the waters. I am Dinanukht, the wise scribe, the ink-book of the learned, the powerful, proud, arrogant one, in whose house there is no master of the house, in whose building, in whose upper palaces and lower houses there is no elder. These my books lie on my hands and my book of remembrance on both my arms. I study in my new books and seek instruction in the old. I reflect, understand and inform myself about the past, the present and the future.

Then the little Disai came and fell down before me. I opened him and studied in him. He is small, but his speeches are great, and the words burst forth from him violently. He searched in the upper Abaddons and said: "There is a Life that has been from of old, and there is a Truth that was at the beginning, earlier. There is splendor, there is light. There is death, there is life; there is darkness, there is light. There is error, there is truth. There is destruction, there is building. There is a blow, there is healing. There is an exalted One, who is older and was there before the Builder of the heaven and the earth."

Dinanukht says: "I sought instruction from the little Disai and said: Where is the Life that has been from of old, where is the Truth that was at the beginning, earlier? Where is the splendor, where is the light? Where is the error, where is the truth? Where is the destruction, where is the building? Where is the blow, where is the healing? Where is this exalted One, who is older and was there before the Builder of the heaven and the earth?"

Then I seized the little Disai and burned him in the fire.

Then I seized the little Disai and sank him in the water.

I sit between the waters ... (repetition) in the upper Abaddons and said: ...... before the Builder of the heaven and the earth?

Then I seized the little Disai and let him lie before me from the shadows of the morning until the great dusk of the evening.

Then Ewath, the false spirit, came, stepped up to me in my dwelling and said to me: "Why do you lie there, Dinanukht? Why did sleep please you? I am the Life that has been from of old, I am the Truth that was at the beginning, earlier. I am the splendor, I am the light. I am death, I am life. I am the darkness, I am the light. I am the error, I am the truth. I am the destruction, I am the building. I am the blow, I am the healing. I am the exalted One, who is older and was there before the Builder of the heaven and the earth. I have no companion among kings, and there is no other crown in my kingdom. There is no single human being who could give me an answer in the mist-clouds of darkness."

Then Din-Mlikh-Uthra, the angel, came, struck blows against the body of Dinanukht and brought him out of the body. Winds, winds carry Dinanukht off, storms, storms drive him away, ladders, ladders bear him up and let him ascend by rungs. They brought him up and set him in the watch-house of Nbaz-Haila, the lord of darkness, the great anvil of the earth. His throne is set on the rift of the world, his feet rest on the lower Abaddons, and the hem of his garment is dragged over all the seas. A thousand times a thousand [stand before him], and ten thousand times ten thousand idols serve him. Then he said: "When I saw him, I told myself that I would bow and prostrate myself before him, stretch out my body and praise him." But Din-Mlikh-Uthra, who accompanied me, did not let me and said to me: "Before whom do you want to bow, Dinanukht, and before whom do you want to stretch out your body and praise him, when the great God and the house of the great, first Lord are before you?"

Winds, winds carry Dinanukht off, storms, storms drive him away, ladders, ladders bear him up and let him ascend by rungs. They brought him up and set him in the watch-house of Zan-Hazazban, the swift, the valiant, the king of wrath, strength and destruction. His throne is set at the gate of heaven. To the thief he says: steal, and to the householder he says: stand firm. To the thief because of the killing, and to the householder because of the loss. A thousand times a thousand stand before him, and ten thousand times ten thousand idols serve him. When I saw him, I wanted to bow and prostrate myself before him, stretch out my body and praise him. But Din-Mlikh-Uthra, who accompanied me, did not let me and said to me: "Before whom do you want to bow, Dinanukht, and before whom do you want to stretch out your body and praise him, when the great, first God and the house of the great, first Lord are before you?"

Winds, winds carry Dinanukht off, storms, storms drive him away, ladders, ladders bear him up and let him ascend by rungs. They brought him up and set him in the watch-house of Ewath the Deceiver, the mother of the unwed, Qananit, the mother of the "holy ones," the inner scorpion-venom of the darkness. Seven noblewomen stand there who are not noblewomen, and seven maidens who may not be called maidens. Their breasts are bared and their sides slit. The wreath of lewdness and fornication lies on their heads. They take captive the hearts of the unbelievers, they take captive the minds of the children of men. They take the men captive by proud glances, the women by the lustful heart. A thousand times a thousand stand before her, and ten thousand times ten thousand idols serve her. He said: "When I saw her, I told myself that I would bow and prostrate myself before her, stretch out my body and praise her. But Din-Mlikh-Uthra, who accompanied me, did not let me and said: Before whom do you want to bow, Dinanukht, and before whom do you want to stretch out your body and praise him, when the great, first God and the house of the great, first Lord are before you?"

Winds, winds carry Dinanukht off, storms, storms drive him away, ladders, ladders bear him up and let him ascend by rungs. They brought him up and set him in the watch-house of the man Himun. A thousand times a thousand stand before him, and ten thousand times ten thousand idols serve him. When I saw him, I told myself that I would bow and prostrate myself before him, stretch out my body and praise him. But Din-Mlikh-Uthra, who accompanied me, did not let me and said: "Before whom do you want to bow, Dinanukht, and before whom do you want to stretch out your body and praise him, when the great, first God and the house of the first, great Lord are before you?"

Winds, winds carry Dinanukht off, storms, storms drive him away, ladders, ladders bear him up and let him ascend by rungs. They brought him up and set him in the watch-house of Ptahil, who is bereft of splendor, cut off from light, whom God cut off from Himself, whose head is whiter than the foam of the water, whose beard is like flakes of white wool. He says: "By my strength I built the house, by my wonders I founded the palace. I gave the moon for the reckoning of the worlds, I gave the sun to serve the children of men." The arrogant one, who accomplished nothing with his hands but exalts himself with his mouth.

Winds, winds carry Dinanukht off, storms, storms drive him away, ladders, ladders bear him up and let him ascend by rungs. They brought him up and set him in the watch-house of the old, lofty, hidden, guarded Abathur. I looked and saw how a thousand times a thousand stood there and ten thousand times ten thousand sat. All were clothed with splendor and covered with light. A wreath of victories was laid around their heads. They sat on thrones of rest and recited secret orders of prayer, services and prayers. I looked and saw how a thousand times a thousand thrones were set up. Over them were laid double and spread out garments of splendor and pure turbans of light. Dinanukht said: "In that watch-house I had anxiety and fear and was afraid." Then Din-Mlikh-Uthra said to Dinanukht: "O Dinanukht! I brought you past the seven watch-houses of death, and before the eight of destruction you had no anxiety and fear. What did you see here that you fell into anxiety and fear?"

Then Dinanukht said to Din-Mlikh-Uthra: "I saw a thousand times a thousand standing and ten thousand times ten thousand sitting. All were clothed with splendor and covered with light. Wreaths of victories were laid around their heads. They sat on thrones of rest and recited secret orders of prayer, services and prayers. I saw a thousand times a thousand thrones, over which garments of splendor and great turbans of light were laid double and spread out." He said further: "I saw the Life that has been from of old, I saw the Truth that was at the beginning, earlier." Further he said to him: "I saw death, I saw life. I saw the darkness, I saw the light. I saw the error, I saw the truth. I saw the destruction, I saw the building. I saw the blow, I saw the healing. I saw this exalted One, who is older and was there before the Builder of the heaven and the earth."

Then Din-Mlikh-Uthra said to Dinanukht: "These thrones are kept for the souls whose mother and father are not yet there. After a thousand years they fall into the lineage of father and mother. Then they come out into the world and put on the color of flesh. When their measure is full, they leave the world, clothe themselves with garments of splendor and cover themselves with great turbans of light. They sit on thrones of rest and recite secret orders of prayer, services and prayers."

Then Dinanukht asked Din-Mlikh-Uthra: "Which is my throne?" Din-Mlikh-Uthra answered Dinanukht: "Your garment is a garment of splendor, and your turban is a great one of light. Your wreath is from the vine Rwaz, which does not wither and does not pass away, and whose leaves do not fall from it."

Further Din-Mlikh-Uthra said to Dinanukht: "Go to the world of the wicked, to the place that consists wholly of kingdoms. Go, burn your books in the fire and sink your book of remembrance in the water. Go out into the world, call the call of truth and instruct disciples sixty years and sixty months. When your measure is full, they will clothe you with your garment of splendor and cover you with your great turban of light, and they will set your radiant wreath around you. You will sit on your throne of rest and recite secret orders of prayer, services and prayers among your brothers, the Uthras, the sons of light."

Then Dinanukht said to Din-Mlikh-Uthra: "I would rather eat dust at the threshold of the house of life than return to the world of the wicked, to the great place that consists wholly of kingdoms."

Then Din-Mlikh-Uthra said to Dinanukht: "O Dinanukht, you fool who are not wise, you deficient one who are not perfect. At the threshold of the house of life one does not eat dust. One eats only good things and seeks comfort there. Return to the world of the wicked and to the place that consists wholly of kingdoms. Burn your books in the fire and sink your book of remembrance in the water. Go out into the world, call the call of truth and instruct disciples sixty years and sixty months. When your measure is full, come, clothe yourself with your garment of splendor, cover yourself with your great turban of light and set your radiant wreath around your head."

Dinanukht said: "I opened my eyes and raised my brows. I looked and saw a thousand times a thousand noblemen standing in the sun and weeping over me, and ten thousand times ten thousand noblewomen standing in the heat of the day and lamenting and weeping over me. Then I said to them: Go, you noblemen who (lament and) weep over me, go, weep over yourselves; and you noblewomen who lament over me, go, lament (and weep) over yourselves. You have not seen what my eyes have seen, you have not heard what my ear has heard."

Then Dinanukht rose, called his wife Nuraita and said to her: "Bring me these my books and burn them in the fire, and sink my book of remembrance in the water."

Then his wife Nuraita cried out, whimpered, shrieked and said: "Dinanukht has become insane, Dinanukht is insane, this king's son speaks without reason."

Then Dinanukht rose, burned these his books in the fire and sank his book of remembrance in the water. He went out to this world, called the call of truth and instructed disciples sixty years, sixty months and sixty days. When the measure of Dinanukht was full and he left his body, they led him up to the gate of the house of life. Then Dinanukht said: "Open to me the gate of the house of life." Then they opened to him the gate of the house of life and drew up before him the great curtain of safety. They sprang up, clothed him with a garment of splendor, covered him with a great turban of light, brought him a wreath from the vine Rwaz and set it around his head. Dinanukht now stood in the place of life, in the place that is all splendor, in the place that is all light. He stood there in great strength, praised the mighty God and the One whose name is precious and exalted, as he himself is. And Dinanukht said: "In accordance with this ascent by which I have ascended, may all truthful, believing and excellent Nasoraeans ascend and arrive. May they be set upright and made firm at the great, first place of light."

God stands firm in light, Manda dHaije is set upright in victories, truth is victorious over all works.
