Plain text of Right Ginza, Fourth Book
In the name of the Great, Living God: may forgiveness of sins be granted to me, N.N., to my wife N.N., and to my children N.N., N.N., and may their names be established in the treasure-house of the abode of life.
In the name of the Great, Living God.
Truth is good for the good, and the Knowledge of Life for the servants of salvation.
This is the secret, the book, the instruction and the first, living teaching, which has been from of old.
When God, the First, the Living, willed and created Manda d-Haije, and created Hibil-Ziwa, the latter stood a thousand times a thousand years before the Lord of Majesty and was hidden in their midst. Hibil-Uthra will one day go to Krun, the great mountain of flesh, and to the three worlds of darkness, the primeval ones, which the sword does not cut off, the fire does not consume, and which do not sink in the floods of water. That Krun, the great mountain of flesh, and the 366 devs who dwell with him: from those devs came that being named Ur, the lord of darkness. His father has the name Gaf and many other names. From his first-born son, that is, that Ur, proceed the Five, the Seven, the Twelve, which together are twenty-four devs.
We, however, by the power of God, the Living, and of the Uthras, by the power of the King of Light, rejoice in the gentle Uthra, the steadfast first-created, whom God devised and created by His splendour, whom we clothe with the light, whom we cover with the light, with the power and steadfastness that we grant him. We send him against all the wicked who plot evil against us, and against Ur, the lord of darkness, who exalts himself over us. This Uthra seizes him, presses him down, fetters and binds him, delivers him to the lower copper earth, and surrounds him with seven iron walls. Until, by God's command, Ptahil comes, skilfully compacts the earth, stretches out the firmament, builds the house and removes all the wicked who plot evil, so long the fettering with which Hibil-Ziwa fettered Ur remains in force.
Then Hibil-Ziwa betakes himself to all the worlds of darkness; he goes to Krun, the great mountain of flesh, and does him all manner of harm. Krun, the great mountain of flesh, lets Hibil-Ziwa behold anguish, fear and terror, but Hibil-Ziwa does not fear him, and Krun is subdued by him.
Then Zihrun-Uthra, whose name is Josmir-Kanna, speaks to Jadatan, the man who gives this explanation, who was created at the command of the Lord of Majesty. In the name of that Uthra two other Uthras were called forth, Adatan and Jadatan, who on the day the first Jordan immersed Hibil-Ziwa were called forth as his helpers. Then six others were called forth: Sitil and Anos, Silmai and Nidbai, Adakas-Mana and the great secret, whose name is Jofin-Uthra.
With him went the great, first splendour that came forth from the light of the Lord of Majesty. For all worlds, of light as of darkness, he set a boundary. He locked the gates, mounted the bolts, and the pass and the great secret that had been given him by us: every warlike dev who saw that pass pressed his seal upon it. He established peace in all the worlds of light, which are unbounded and endless.
When I had told and spoken all these things, the hidden and the revealed, I worshipped, praised and glorified the Lord of Majesty according to the wisdom and knowledge and whatever else God had imparted to me. For those thousand years I was before the Lord of Majesty, lying stretched out upon my face. Then the Lord of Majesty called me and raised me up from my prostration. Then the Lord of Majesty spread of His splendour over me, granted me of His light, and set upon my head a wreath of victories of luminous leaves. Splendour and light were created for all the Uthras, and garments were created for all the Uthras.
Thereafter the Lord of Majesty arose and created, on the right-hand side, 444 dwellings and on the left-hand side 366 dwellings. From each single dwelling He then created 1,800,000 myriads of Uthras, who are precious and wondrous, whose splendour is wondrous, whose light is bright and shining, by whose splendour the lamps flicker and shine that shine before them. In each single dwelling two guardians have settled, and two lamps shine before it.
What is the name of the chief guardian of the 444 dwellings? What is the name of the guardian of the 366 dwellings?
The head of the 444 dwellings bears the name Barbag-Uthra. The head of the 366 dwellings is called Anan-Nsab, also named Taurel-Uthra. Taurel-Uthra was created at the beginning of the first creation; thereafter all the Uthras were created.
Manda d-Haije, by command of the Lord of Majesty, went down to the Jordan and prepared the immersion. When he wanted to immerse the vigorous Uthra, the great, well-equipped Uthra, the great Jordan turned to Manda d-Haije, spoke and said to him: "Who is this Uthra whom you want to immerse in me, in whom you were immersed?" Then, when the living water beheld the splendour and the light of Hibil-Ziwa, the splendour, the light and the glory of Manda d-Haije, and the olive staff of living water that had been created from Jokasar-Kanna, it played and did not keep still, leapt and turned hither and thither, like the waves in Sindiriawis, the great Jordan of life.
Then the Lord of Majesty said to the great Jordan: "You, great Jordan of life, remain calm and firm in your place, for Hibil-Ziwa shall be immersed in you." Then the great Jordan of life did not turn away from the words of the Lord of Majesty and did not depart from His speech. The Jordan of living water stood still, and Hibil-Ziwa was immersed in it. Hibil-Ziwa was immersed, and with him were immersed his two brothers, Sitil and Anos, and four others who are called Great. He immersed the three Uthras who are his brothers and his helpers.
When he had immersed all those who were with him, as he stood in the Jordan by the command of his Lord, the Lord of Majesty, he spoke, sang a song over the Jordan and said:
"At the head of the water I set out,
at the head of the springs of life I came hither.
I founded three dwellings
and set guards over them.
The guards I set over them
are wondrous, blessed and steadfast."
Then Manda d-Haije made the immersion firm. He came up out of the Jordan and made the covenant of Truth with the Great. And the Lord of Majesty, when Manda d-Haije came up out of the Jordan and sealed his brethren, who are his followers, answered Manda d-Haije and said to him:
"Your splendour is bright,
and your light shines.
The disciples shine by your splendour,
and their appearance shines more than all the world."
He called to Hibil and said to him:
"I hear the voice of Hibil-Ziwa,
who speaks and recites in the place of light,
the voice of his speech, which is lovely.
I am pleased and full of praise.
I am pleased, and my soul rejoices,
my mind rejoices and is radiant,
and my inner being exults beyond measure.
I rejoice over the works
that Hibil-Ziwa has carried out,
which by his hand succeeded excellently."
He guarded him, made him firm, equipped him, blessed him and spread of His grace over him. He bestowed splendour on Hibil-Ziwa, then called Sitil, made him firm and said to him:
"Guard, guard, Sitil-Uthra,
that your speech be not that of the demons.
Let your speech be our speech,
joined with us and never cut off."
He bestowed light on Sitil, then called Anos, made him firm and said to him: "The four Uthras who sit in mutual splendour have blessed you. They immersed you with their immersion and clothed you with garments of their own." He bestowed brightness on Anos and granted him rich splendour, like his two brothers.
Then the great luminary that shines over all worlds spoke and said to the Lord of Majesty. The name of that luminary is Jattir-Jathrun; it has 360 names. It said to Him:
"Whose is this splendour?
Whose is this light?
Whose is this brightness?"
He answered it:
"This splendour belongs to Hibil,
this light belongs to Sitil,
this brightness belongs to Anos-Uthra,
which is vast and endless."
The King of Light sealed them, sealed them perfectly. He called Silmai and Nidbai, blessed them with His blessing, and said to them: "We rejoice in this image that was created." They then called R'ham-Raza and Adakas-Mana and his helpers. They made for them a sheltering cloud, so that the Uthras should not see their form, and said to them: "The Uthras sang hymns in their glory, and you, the Great, rejoice in your enlightenment. The cloud of light rejoices and is radiant."
When the man arrived ........, he sat down. The King of Light sealed his helpers, his brethren. He sealed Sindiriawis, the great Jordan of life, in which no one may be immersed. He said to them: "We carried out the goodness of the Great Living God and set Your mercy in order. We made the great Jordan of life and the 360 Jordans in which Hibil-Ziwa was immersed."
Then Manda d-Haije said to the great Living God, who had created him: "Grant that we send this first-created servant to the world of the wicked." And he said to Hibil-Ziwa, the head of the whole company: "As you were created, so are your brothers the Uthras; let them keep watch over the treasure of life. When you go to the darkness, take on the strength of the swift dove."
Then Hibil-Ziwa arose, went and subdued the frail ones. He did to the mighty fiends something that was hateful to them. He saw Ruha d-Qudsa, how she was with child by the frail fiend. She was with child by the king of darkness, and they say: "We shall be the lords of all worlds, the upper, the middle and the lower." I saw the king of darkness, as my Lord had told me. [I subdued] Ruha, Hewath the woman, the mother of the frail fiend. I subdued the king of darkness, whose mother says: "We shall be the lords of all worlds." I made a great compacting above him and set up a ...... above him, in which I established the world. I cursed Hewath the woman, the mother of the frail fiend, and said to her: "Your curse and your blessing shall be your sole portion. Your sons and Ptahil-Uthra shall set this world in order. Only because of the plan of Josamin have I come to you. I came to you and did to the darkness something hateful. For without lack and fault I carried out what my Lord commanded me. For a servant who does not listen to the word of his Lord is held back here with you. I, however, obeyed and accepted, and did not throw to the wind what my Lord commanded me. Yes, I listened to His word, accepted it and went, and established it in the treasury of the Uthras, the keepers of the treasure, the supports of the whole palace. I took Truth in my right hand and went to the world of darkness. Some stood firm in faith, others held themselves back in the world of darkness. Those who stood firm in faith ascend and behold the place of light. Those who did not stand firm in faith will come to an end on the Last Day."
Manda d-Haije spoke and said: "This battle that took place was fought on account of Josamin."
Everyone who prays this tract and does not recite it with a sincere heart and believing lips will be cut off from the way that leads to the light. But everyone who recites it with a sincere heart and believing lips will receive forgiveness of sins and offences.
Praised be God; peace be upon Manda d-Haije and his helpers Hibil, Sitil and Anos, and Silmai and Nidbai. And the Living God is victorious for ever.
