Plain text of Right Ginza, Third Book: The Book of the Living, First Teaching (15)
and raised him on high beyond measure.
We arranged a great wedding for him
with excellent hymns and orders of prayer.
We put the speech of Ruha to shame,
and brought to naught her rebellious call.
We removed the wickedness of the planets
and subdued all fiends.
We set up the root of life;
it triumphed and brought victory to its whole lineage.
We remained with Adam
until Hawwa had her labour pains.
Until Hawwa had her labour pains,
we remained with them.
We remained with them,
and I was a ..... of the women to him.
I instructed Adam to marry a wife,
as men marry a wife.
I instructed Adam to marry a wife
and said to myself: let the lineage of life increase.
Let the lineage of life increase,
and from them let the world be awakened.
Let the world be awakened by them,
and God will be grateful to them.
God will be grateful to them,
He will redeem them and lift them up
out of this world of the wicked.
When Adam was established,
three Uthras were appointed over him.
Over the Uthras who were appointed over Adam and Hawwa,
I myself stood at the head.
I stood and taught them
wondrous hymns.
I taught them orders of prayer,
that they might perform the rites of the soul's ascent after the manner of the Uthras.
I taught them prayers,
that through the prayers they might be made firm in the Living God.
I said to them:
"You are set upright and made firm
in the place where the good are made firm.
Among the spirits of light
you shall there be made firm."
I sat down and instructed them,
like a teacher his pupils.
I pronounced a blessing over them:
may the blessing of the good rest upon them.
Adam and his children and his lineage
shall behold the place of light.
When Ruha saw them,
she called the fiends.
She called the fiends
and gave them a worthless counsel.
A worthless counsel she gave them,
unfavourable to the place of light.
She says to them:
"What do we gain from being in the house
and shining in the world?
What do we gain from shining,
when we have no share in it?
We have no share in it,
and the whole house does not belong to us.
Come! Let us tell the Stranger
to grant us a share of the world.
If he does not grant us a share,
we shall stir up strife against him.
If he does not grant us a share,
we shall leave the world at once.
We shall leave the world at once;
who then will be a splendour in it?
Who will be a splendour in it
and light up the world?"
When Ruha and the planets spoke so,
the children of the vain dwelling,
I turned and said
to the worthless fiends:
"If you want to depart, depart from the house;
I shall then light it up alone.
I shall light up this house
and keep it in the best order."
All the fiends declared themselves against him
and stepped forward to forge secret plans.
All plot evil
and say:
"Come! Let us hold a feast,
come, let us hold a drinking-bout.
Let us practise mysteries of lust
and seduce the whole world.
Let us create mysteries of sorcery
and put an end to our world.
Let us set up ......
and do away with the call of life.
The call of life we shall do away with;
who will call ...........?
Strife we shall cast into the house,
that it may not be settled to all eternity.
Strife we shall cast into the house
and kill the Stranger.
The Stranger we shall kill
and do away with his whole lineage.
We shall make Adam our follower
and see who then becomes his deliverer."
Ruha and the planets then set out
and climbed Mount Carmel.
[Mount Carmel] they climbed
and hatched mysteries of lust.
The fiends sit and forge plans,
they grasp at the mysteries of them all.
They grasp at the mystery of Ruha;
they sit and practise sorcery.
They sit, brooding in their cunning,
and say:
"Come! Let us hold a feast
and bring offerings at it.
Let us gather the twelve constellations,
and let us all practise secret things.
Let us all swear oaths,
and let us not betray the mysteries of lust.
Let us celebrate the mystery of lust with myrtle
and ensnare all the world.
Let us celebrate the mystery of lust with wine
and ensnare the world in our intoxication.
