Plain text of Book Three · Fifty-fifth Piece
On the structure,
on the summit of the whole vault,
on the summit of the whole vault
the Great Living God stands and proclaims.
The Great Living God stands and proclaims
and enumerates the sins of this world:
"O you foolish world,
O you confused, tangled world,
O you foolish world,
in what is your trust placed?
In what is your trust placed,
to whom does your faith cling?
I shall lift away and take away from you
the gleam of the light that was given you.
I shall lift away and take away from you
the world that falls without rising.
O you world, you wild beast,
that does not know left from right!
The planets are fattened oxen,
standing for sale in the markets.
Now let them serve you!
Now you shall shake yourself from sleep,
now clench your fists,
strike the courts of your breast
and say:
'Woe to me, what have I done,
what have I abundantly done
within this world!
They called me to the way of life,
but I stayed away from the milestone.'" —
And the Living God is victorious.
