Plain text of Book Three · Fifty-third Piece
I passed by the gate of the prisoners,
by the torment of this world.
I hear the voice of the souls
who weep out of the prison.
They say:
"Woe to us, that the world has deceived us,
the powers in it have deceived us.
Our money and goods
have bound us to this place.
Who will go and tell our children,
whom we left behind in the world,
that they should practise nothing of our ugly deeds,
lest they be bound to this place?
Let them worship God, the great Healer,
let them worship the great Light that is all light,
let them hold fast to the Knowledge of Life,
that he may come forward and be a helper to them,
a helper to the perfected,
from the place of darkness to the place of light." —
You were victorious, Knowledge of Life,
you were victorious and helped your friends to victory. —
And the Living God is victorious.
