Plain text of Book Three · Fiftieth Piece
From a right place
the man, the helper, came to me,
the word came to me
and armed my soul on the spot.
He called to me the call of life
and created helpers for me.
The helpers whom he created for me
were from the place of light.
He called aloud with his voice and let me hear,
he awakened my soul from sleep.
He awakened the keeper of the secrets,
Adam, whom he had sown among the bodies.
He awakened me from the sleep
that the Living God had put into my mind.
He threw the seven mysteries into confusion,
which were with me in my garment.
He removed them from their place,
of their wrath (?) he let a portion loose upon them.
He threw the bell-ringers into confusion,
the men who guard the earth.
He cast down and threw to the ground the watch-house keepers
and made a breach in their fortress.
A breach in their fortress he made
and brought strife into it.
Yes, he stepped among them,
and they did not know against whom they were fighting.
They did not see the exalted Lord,
they did not see my helpers.
They did not see my gentle guide,
who drew me out from their midst and led me away.
He drew me out of their garment
of wormwood, bitter herb and ......
He drew me out of the bodily garment,
out of the vain garment.
He clothed me with radiance from himself,
covered me with precious light from himself.
He bound a girdle about me
and made my form more radiant than the Seven.
When the Seven beheld me,
they saw themselves as defeated.
By the power of my exalted Lord
I passed by them all.
(The scales were set up.)
I beheld the great house of origin,
in which my brethren dwell.
When my brethren beheld me,
they clothed me with radiance from themselves.
The good included me in their reckoning
and kept me in their midst. —
And the Living God is victorious.
