Plain text of Book Three · Thirtieth Piece
I passed by the gate of the garden,
I heard the voice of the gardener.
The voice of the gardener I heard,
who wept and made the trees of the garden weep.
"Why do you weep, gardener,
and make the trees of your garden weep?
Has something gone from your hands,
or has the water been held back in your channels?"
"Nothing has gone from my hands,
nor has the water been held back in my channels.
But yesterday, yes, at evening
a cedar was uprooted from my garden.
A cedar was uprooted from my garden,
a female cedar torn out at the root.
I weep for my companions and for the plants
that he left with her."
"The cedar that was uprooted from your garden,
the one who planted it has uprooted it.
The female cedar that was torn out at the root
will be set up here with us.
The good plants that were left with you
will climb up and flourish excellently."
And the Living God is victorious.
I am a great soul,
I am a soul from the Mighty Living God.
I am a great soul
who dwelt in the sea.
I dwelt in the sea
until wings were fashioned for me,
until wings were fashioned for me,
until I became winged,
until I became winged
and lifted my wings toward the place of light.
