Plain text of Book Three · Twenty-fifth Section
I have a soul in the Tibil,
she lies wrapped up in the world.
Wrapped up she lies in the world;
let an angel come to her couch.
To her couch let an angel come
and shake her from sleep:
"Rise, rise, soul,
rise, look toward the house of life.
Rise, look toward the house of life
and lift your face to the place of light.
Behold, the whole world
is a thing without worth.
A thing without worth it is
and deserves no trust.
Behold the great sea,
through which there is no crossing.
Behold the river Hitpun,
through which no dam is laid.
Behold the watch-house
by which rebels stand.
Behold the firebrands,
whose smoke rises and reaches the firmament.
Behold the double pits
which Satan dug on the way.
Behold the high mountain
on which no way is levelled.
Behold the wall, the iron wall,
that surrounds the world like a wreath.
Like a wreath it surrounds the world,
and no breach is made in it.
If you, soul, hear what I say to you
and do not go against my words,
then, by God's leave, a crossing will be laid for you
over this great sea.
Through this river Hitpun
a dam will be laid for you.
I shall lead you past the watch-house
by which the rebels stand.
I shall lead you past the firebrands,
whose smoke rises and reaches the firmament.
I shall lead you past the double pits
which Satan dug on the way.
On this high mountain
I shall level a way for you.
In this wall, the iron wall,
I shall make a breach for you.
With all my strength I shall take hold of you
and stretch you with my whole body.
With all my strength I shall take hold of you
and lift you up with me to the place of light." —
And God is victorious.
If the chosen come from the Tibil of the earth,
they come and are embraced by my vine.
They come, are embraced by my vine
and ascend, beholding the place of light.
