Plain text of Book Three · Eighteenth Section
Though still young, my measure was full,
though still young, my departure took place;
though still young, my measure was full
away from this world.
If I go out, the demons stand there,
if I turn back, my number is indeed full.
How foolish are the ages,
how simple are the worlds,
how foolish are the ages,
who sit in mourning around me.
In mourning for me they sit
and eat for me,
and for me they lie on mats.
They lie on mats for me
and tear their garments for me.
For me they tear their garments,
and for me they shed tears.
Tears they shed for me
and tear out their hair for me.
Everyone who tears his garment for me
will keep the fault upon his garment.
Everyone who sheds tears for me
will find seas and rivers before him.
Everyone who tears out his hair for me
will be shut in the Dark Mountain.
My measure was full, my time comes,
and I journey to the place of light. —
God is held high and is victorious,
and victorious is the man who went here.
When I dwelt in the bodily garment,
my garment was not taken from me;
now that they have taken me out of it,
my trust is set on God.
