Plain text of Book Three · Fifteenth Section
"My measure is full, and I go out." —
The spirit says to the soul:
"If you go out, why does it grieve you?
If it grieves you, why do you go out?"
"If I go out, the demons stand there,
if I turn back, my number is indeed full.
Where is the Life that I loved,
where is the Life that loved me?
Where is the man of proven righteousness,
for whose sake I gave alms?
Where is Manda dHaije,
whose teaching I followed when I went to the Jordan?
Where do you go, keeper of Kushta,
while the demons surround my body?
The demons surround my body,
and the Seven stand there and plan evil.
The Seven plan against me
and devise secret plots against me.
They say:
'When he goes away from us,
we will fetter him in the house of the toll-keepers.
When he cries out, who will answer him,
and who will be a deliverer to him?
Who will be a deliverer to him,
when he is fettered in the house of the toll-keepers?'"
On the spot a trembling arose
in this world.
An angel was sent to me,
a man who is eminent in the world.
A great angel was sent to me,
a man who is to be a helper to me.
A helper he is to the men
who make the tribe firm.
He broke their watch-houses
and made a breach in their fortress.
In their fortress he made a breach,
and the Seven fled from his way.
He brought splendour and clothed me with it
and took me out of the world in glory.
The Seven with their demons and she-demons
sit mourning.
All sit there and mourn
for the man who escaped the Tibil,
for the man who escaped the Tibil
and made a breach in their fortress.
He made a breach in their fortress,
and he was taken out of the world in glory.
When the Seven saw this,
they saw themselves as defeated,
they turned back and sat down on their way.
But the chosen (and the angels) ascended with their praise
and beheld the place of light. —
God is held high and is victorious,
and victorious is the man who went here.
The soul beheld the splendour,
she stands at her place of origin and is resplendent.
