Plain text of Book Three · Fourteenth Section

When the darkness devised plans,

Adam left his body.

Adam left his body,

in splendour and light the soul was kept safe.

The soul was kept safe in splendour and light,

and the heart of Satan (Ruha) grew dark.

Satan says:

"The soul has ascended to the house of life."

As long as the soul was in the world of the wicked,

all the darkness sat in distress.

In distress all the darkness sat,

and Satan veiled her head.

She said:

"Woe to me, that I knew nothing

of their treasures, which I coveted.

I will do to her

that I cast her into the torments of the earth.

Into the torments of the earth I will cast her

and hold her back at the gates of darkness.

I will hold her back at the gates of darkness

and fetter her in the watch-houses.

The whole tribe we will make contemptible among us,

to the darkness ......"

Her voice reached the house of God, the Great Life.

When the Great One heard this,

He sent a messenger of light.

The Great One said to Hibil-Ziwa:

"Good angel of lovely name!

Deliver Adam from the darkness

and lift him up here."

I clothed myself with splendour from my place

and came out of my abode.

I took Adam out of the world of the wicked

and led him past every ugly form.

I made the light of the wicked dark

and broke all their watch-houses.

Satan comes and finds

the body of Adam, how it is without a soul.

Satan laments and beats herself

and calls the Astartes who were with her.

She says to the Liliths and Astartes:

"Come, let us lament and weep,

the Astartes shall cry out,

that the stranger has done this

while I knew nothing of their treasures."

I brought Adam past every ugly thing

and arrived before the abode of Ptahil.

When I arrived at the abode of Ptahil,

Ptahil rose from his seat.

Ptahil rose from his seat

and prayed with a bow before God.

He prayed with a bow before God

and offered Kushta to the soul.

To the soul he offered Kushta

and said to her:

"Your measure is full, soul,

and you have left the world of the wicked."

Then she said to him:

"Sit down, simple angel,

who understands nothing of the Tibil."

Ptahil sat down on his seat,

and I came before the abode of Abathur.

Abathur rose from his seat

and prayed with a bow before God.

He prayed with a bow before God

and offered Kushta to the soul.

He offered Kushta to the soul;

then I led her past Josamin.

When Josamin saw the soul,

he rose from his seat.

Josamin rose from his seat

and prayed with a bow before God.

He prayed with a bow before God

and offered Kushta to the soul.

He offered Kushta to the soul;

[then I led her past the angel Enosh].

When Enosh the angel saw the soul,

he prayed with a bow before God.

He prayed with a bow before God

and offered Kushta to the soul.

He offered Kushta to the soul;

then I led her past the sons of salvation.

When the sons of salvation saw the soul,

they prayed with a bow before God.

They prayed with a bow before God

and offered Kushta to the soul.

They offered Kushta to the soul;

[then I led her before God].

When God looked upon me,

He loved me.

The angels of light rejoiced in me,

God blessed me,

and Manda dHaije was grateful to me.

They say to her:

"Blessed be you, soul,

and blessed be the man who delivered you and brought you up."

And to him they said:

"You carried the soul here, you brought her here,

and you were a helper to her."

He granted her splendour in his place

and clothed her with a robe of honour of his own.

With a robe of honour of his own he clothed her

and set her on the seat that he had prepared for her.

He granted her splendour in his place,

and she clothed herself with his robe of honour.

With his robe of honour she clothed herself

and sat on the seat that he had prepared for her.

When she sat on the seat that he had prepared for her,

she rejoiced in splendour and light.

When she rejoiced in splendour and light,

she sprang up and rose from her seat.

She sprang up, rose from her seat

and prayed with a bow before God.

She prayed with a bow before God

and praised God, the Great.

She praised God, and gave thanks to the messenger

who had delivered her and brought her up here.

The soul praises and says: "On this ascent, on which I have ascended, the true, faithful and excellent Nasoraeans, and the perfect women, shall ascend when they depart from their body." —

God is held high and is victorious,

and victorious is the man who went here.

I beheld my garment and my wreath,

and my soul felt itself equipped for the place of light.
