Plain text of Book Three · Thirteenth Section
The hope of good came to me,
for they say: You shall go out.
Then hope came to me once more,
for they say: You shall go on your way.
Send to my brothers and tell them
to come and pray for me.
How good my brothers are,
that they have come of themselves!
"My brothers, you good ones,
I implore you:
If you see something ugly,
do not let go of your burden.
If you again see something ugly,
do not slacken, but do still more.
For he who is laden ascends,
he who is empty is cut off here.
I am laden and ascend,
my works and my wage go before me,
and I rely on my good deeds."
My soul, why does it grieve you
that you leave the house?
The house falls to destruction,
and the case of the captives shall be settled.
The house of the planets [shall fall into ruin],
and the works of their hands shall pass away.
I fly and journey
until I come to the planets.
At the gate of the planets
they stand and whisper.
"Why do you whisper, you Seven?
I do not belong to you."
I fly and journey
until I come to the house of life.
As I come to the house of life,
God's mercy comes to meet me.
Splendour was brought out and I was clothed with it,
light was brought and I was covered with it.
He included me in His reckoning,
and the Good set me in its midst.
My light prepared the sacred bread,
and my mind stood up and praised God.
If you find a good man,
draw near to him,
if you find a wicked one,
keep far from him.
Among the lamps of light
your lamps will be drawn up and shine.
You were set upright and made firm
by the word of truth that has come to you.
The word of truth has come to the good,
the true word to the faithful.
To the place that is wholly life
your souls are called and invited. —
And God is victorious.
The good go on their way,
the case of the chosen is settled.
The good go on their way;
who shall bear the splendour of the good?
