Plain text of Book Three · Fifth Section
Peace and salvation be
on the way that Adam built rightly,
peace and salvation be
on the way that the soul goes.
Go, soul, victorious
to the place from which you were planted,
to the place of joy,
where the countenance is resplendent.
The soul loosed the chain,
she burst the bonds.
She laid aside the bodily coat,
then she turned, saw it and trembled.
It is the voice of the soul of life
that [departs] from the body of refuse.
The loosener who looses the soul weeps,
because they do not let him loose her.
The soul flies and journeys
until she came to the gate of the house of life.
When she came to the gate of the house of life,
angels go out to meet her and bless her:
"Come in peace, you of noble birth,
who were a maidservant in the dwelling of the wicked.
Come in peace, you who spread fragrance,
who made the stinking body fragrant.
Come in peace, you pure pearl,
who were taken from the treasure of life.
Come in peace, chosen one, pure one,
who lit up the dark house."
The soul flies and journeys
until she came to the gate of the house of life.
When she came to the gate of the house of life,
the escort comes to meet her.
A resplendent wreath he carries in his hand,
a garment on both arms:
"Stir yourself, soul, put on your garment
and set on your resplendent wreath.
Ascend, go to the dwelling,
the place where the angels sit,
the place where the angels sit
and your brothers are lodged in their dwellings."
God received her graciously and admitted her to fellowship,
as the chosen are admitted in the place of light. —
God is held high and is victorious,
and victorious is the man who went here.
