Plain text of Book Three · Third Section

Blessed are you, blessed are you, soul,

that you have left the world.

You have left corruption

and the stinking body in which you dwelt,

the dwelling, the dwelling of the wicked,

the place that is all sinners,

the world of darkness,

of hatred, envy and discord,

the dwelling in which the planets abide,

who bring pains and infirmities.

Pains they bring and infirmities,

and daily they stir up unrest.

Rise, rise, soul,

ascend to your original home.

To your original home ascend,

to the place from which you were planted,

to the place from which you were planted,

to your good dwelling among the angels.

Stir yourself, put on your garment of splendour

and set on your resplendent wreath.

Sit upon your seat of splendour,

which God has prepared in the place of light.

Ascend, dwell in the abodes

among the angels, your brothers.

As you are accustomed, bless

your original home

and curse this place,

the house of your nurturers.

For in the years that you dwelt in it,

the Seven were your adversaries.

Your adversaries were the Seven,

and the Twelve were your persecutors. —

God is held high and is victorious,

and victorious is the man who went here.

May the Sunday, the Kushta and the almsgiving

be witnesses for the soul,

be her witnesses

and bring her past the house of the toll-keepers.
