Plain text of Book Two · Twenty-fifth Section
A soul am I of the Great Life,
a soul am I of the mighty Life,
a soul am I of the Great Life.
Who brought me away from my place?
From my place, who brought me away,
who let me dwell in the house of the planets?
In the house of the planets, who let me dwell,
that the wicked are angry with me?
The wicked are angry with me,
and daily they plan evil against me.
They plan in wickedness against me and say:
"We will cut him off and keep him with us.
We will cut him off and keep him with us
and shut him off from his place of origin.
We will shut him off from his place of origin,
and he shall be called our portion."
Adam reflects and says:
"Perhaps they will condemn me.
Perhaps they will condemn me here
and cut me off from the place of origin of my Lord."
As Adam stands and reflects,
his helper draws near to him.
His helper draws near to him,
the angel who brought him here.
He says to him:
"The house in which you dwell,
why do you ask about it?
Do you not know, Adam,
that it happens as you said?
We in the hidden realm, we know
that you will soon depart from it
and ascend to us.
You will ascend to us
and dwell in our abode."
When Adam heard this,
he no longer asked about the transient ones.
He no longer asked about those who built the perishable house;
he endured and dwelt in it.
But soon he flew upward and reached his place,
the place from which he was created,
the place from which he was created
and in which his form had shone.
Adam rejoices in his mind,
is enlightened in his mind:
"How wondrous is what my Lord told me,
how wondrous what the Great One taught me.
Go, go, you planets,
be a portion of your own houses.
Go, be a portion of your houses,
and let your houses be your portion.
I ascend with the root of my Lord,
while the house is left to you." —
Praised be God, the Living; God is victorious, who does not condemn the friends of His name.
