A soul am I of the Great Life,

a soul am I of the mighty Life,

a soul am I of the Great Life,

who shine in precious splendour.

Who planted me, sent me

and brought me into the deception of this world?

Who cast me into the coat, the bodily coat,

that I do not come out of the pains and infirmities?

Who showed me their deception,

who set me in their illusion?

Who removed me from the faith,

who threw me among the perverse tongues?

Who threw me among the perverse tongues,

in which there is no shadow of uprightness?

Who threw me among the raging ones,

who are all full of rage, falsehood and deception?

If only I do not go and then fail to behold

my place, the place of light.

If only I do not forget them (the exalted ones)

and commit vain deeds.

If only I do not forget the gentleness

that God called out to me and taught me.

The destructive secrets weighed upon me,

and the secrets of the place of light cannot see me.

It is the voice of my pure deliverer,

the voice of the man, my helper,

the voice of my pure deliverer,

who taught with his voice and let me hear.

He laid a pure burden upon me,

at the sight of which the worlds tremble.

He says:

"I have provided for you, provided well,

if you wish, ascend here.

When they see you,

submit yourself to them.

When they are angry and provoke,

be you, soul, full of calm.

Do not become heated, do not rage and do not sin, (soul,)

and take no fault upon your garment.

Bow yourself beneath your pure burden

and seek rest in the enlightenment that is granted to you.

Look to your hidden splendour

and escape from the faulty coat.

Acknowledge the right believers,

who all cease before you.

If you act thus,

your garment will be set upright in its place.

In its place your garment will be set upright,

and you will be made firm among us."

When the soul heard this,

God set his mind upright.

He said to him:

"Be faithful and steadfast,

then you will ascend and behold the Mighty Ones." —

God is held high and is victorious,

and victorious is the man who went here.
