A soul am I of the Great Life,

a soul am I of the mighty Life,

a soul am I of the Great Life.

I was in the hidden treasure-house.

In the hidden treasure-house I was

among the precious treasurers.

I had not yet beheld the treasure

which my Creator opened and contemplated.

I had not yet beheld the treasure,

had not yet cried out in my enlightenment.

I had not yet beheld the treasure,

when they brought me and sent me into this world.

How beautiful is what I beheld,

how ugly what you then showed me!

I had beheld enlightenment in fullness,

then they brought me and showed me the darkness.

When shall I escape

the darkness they showed me?

When shall I escape it,

that I may go and behold what I beheld beyond?

Thus spoke the soul,

and his voice ascended to the house of life.

To the house of life his voice ascended,

his submission ascended to the house of the Mighty One.

He said to him:

"Endure much,

then you will soon behold your treasure.

Soon you will behold your treasure,

which your Lord opened and contemplated.

Turn your thoughts away from the Tibil,

and we shall turn our thoughts to you from here.

Pray from the Tibil,

and we shall pray for you a prayer rich and great.

You soul, who have beheld life,

see to it that you do not love death.

See to it that you do not love death

and bear witness to perverse speech.

Do not love things of lust

and do not forsake the bright splendour.

Do not forget the Great Ones,

do not forget what you wished to behold and did not behold."

When the soul heard this,

he pursed his lips over the worlds.

He scorned Jorabba

and the seven forms that dwell with him.

He scorned the planets,

as they sit in their chariots.

He scorned the harlot (Satan),

from whom all ugly things proceed.

He left her in utter scorn,

he betook himself away and went to his place,

while all his watchers sat astonished.

He said:

"I will go and see what the Great One has charged me with,

see the treasure of the Mighty One.

I will go and behold the precious thing

which my Lord opened and contemplated."

Soon the pure messenger came,

he took me away from here, freed me from here

and lifted me up to his treasure-house.

He said:

"Come, come, soul,

come, behold the precious thing.

Come, behold the precious thing

which you wished to behold and did not behold.

You have endured well, soul,

you have freed yourself well and ascended."

The soul rejoices in the precious thing

and blesses the Mighty One.

He says to Him:

"When I have ascended, I will tell You

what becomes of Your living fire.

When Your ...... is left behind in the judgement of the worlds,

a portion of Your vintage will fall into the hands of the planets." —

"You have spoken and made it real, soul,

go, sit upon your seat of honour.

We know well

that this proceeds from the Second." —

And praised be God, the Living.
