Plain text of Book Two · Twentieth Section
A soul am I of the Great Life,
a soul am I of the mighty Life,
a soul am I of the Great Life.
I dwelt among hidden nurturers.
Among hidden nurturers I dwelt,
who are wondrous, blessed and firm.
Whoever is blessed with their blessing
does not perish,
whoever hears their speech does not fall.
Whoever is enlightened by their praise
does not fall on the ladders of the ages.
The soul ...... says to the Seven:
"I do not dwell among you.
Among you I do not dwell
and do not stumble over your stumbling-blocks.
I do not fall into your captivity
and accept nothing from you.
Nothing of your cleverness made me clever,
and your illusion is not kept with me.
I learn nothing of your ugly teaching
and practise none of your works;
for I am not of you.
I pursed my lips over you
and scorned all your works.
I escape you,
the snares you cast into the world,
all your ropes and your hoops
and all your chains.
I betake myself to my place
and hear the speech of my nurturers.
The speech of my hidden nurturers I hear,
who are wondrous, blessed and firm.
I shine through their garment
and am wise through their wisdom.
I learn what they have in their hearts
and do all that they do." —
And God is victorious.
