When God, the Lord of heaven, the Lord of the air, and the Lord of the deep,

Through His sure counsel and by His great commands,

Ordained the renewal of the Moon,

The reappearance of the moon, and the creation of the month,

And ordained the decree of heaven and earth,

The New Moon did He cause to appear,

In the midst of heaven it was seen to come forth.

Another version: When God, the Lord of heaven, of the air, and of the deep,

Through His sure counsel

Fixed the bounds of heaven and earth,

(And) to the hands of the angels entrusted

The course of the day and the renewal of the month which they might behold,

(And) mankind beheld the Sun in the gate of its going forth,

In the midst of heaven and earth He duly created it.
